No one. Which to me is why you force Kawhi to be a man and come back. If he's traded, Spurs lose. If he leaves next summer, Spurs lose. Take your chances that he matures and doesn't want to leave $50 million on the table

Kawhi leaving you are right the Spurs lose for sure... but it isn't binary. I'd much rather have some young promising players or picks than jack**** to kick off rebuilding.

And why the hell would you want Kawhi poisoning the well in the organization for a season? That's like the opposite of what has made that organization successful for the last 25 years.

Pop is going to coach Kawhi in 3 weeks with team USA. Maybe you roll the dice and see if you can patch things up.

So do we get the "Godfather" deal now or does lakers wait until next year for kawhi?

No guarantee they have cap space next year. They probably use the rest on boogie or Capella then resign randle

The Lakers also signed KCP for 1 year for $12 million. Reporters on ESPN seem to think they are just going to feel up the rest of their roster with 1-year deals to have cap space for Kawhi next season.

Just reporting what was said by Stephen A on sports center, I know the dude is crazy at

Spurs and lakers talked twice today, will talk a third time tonight

Kyle kuzma is not available for trade

If deal is struck by tomorrow morning, Lakers might just move on

Some nba executives think Kawhi might sit out next season until he's traded

I'd rather see the Spurs franchise leave town than the post Duncan legacy to be that the organization bowed down to the Lakers to help them build a super team.

LA can give up some decent pieces or GTFO. Kawhi can play a year like a man and walk away from $50 million. That is better than selling him for Luol Deng and a mushroom stamp from Magic Johnson.

Rant over.

I'm 100% on board with just keeping him and letting it play out. If he walks and then the Spurs will have max space next summer when there are a lot of guys available.

The only question will be what does he do all year? I don't ever remember a situation like this where the team never gave in on a trade. That's why I'm guessing they end up trading him east and letting some other team deal with it.

I am calling 210 444 4444 bc leonard sitting when healthy is an issue last year and if he sits out this year then this is collusion and the Spurs could own the league literally

If LeBron plays as many minutes this year as he did last year, he will pass Duncan for 13th all time in minutes. LeBron has the most playoffs minutes by 700 with over 10,000. So 54,000 total NBA minutes total.

Bron is one of the most durable players ever, but I'd rather make Kawhi wait until Bron is 35+ and has another 3000+ minutes on the odometer before Kawhi gets to play with him.

Feels like the lakers have the leverage here. Spurs are asking too much and risking losing out on getting something back for kawhi. Spurs might have to cave

Some guy posted on Twitter a little while ago that the CBA forbids holdouts for players under contract. So Kawhi cannot sit out or the Spurs can refuse him from signing anywhere at the end of his contract.

Its more than nothing. Other teams would be dumb to trade for kawhi knowing he's heading to LA in 2019

Wrong. Spurs can milk another several thousand minutes from LeBron as guitarsoup pointed out. They can also throw Kawhi out there for 48 minutes a game and run so many psyops on him he might go write poetry with TaTa. Or they can roll with Kawhi and treat him well, show they're the premier organization in sports, and maybe make the WCF, and then sign a max guy when Kawhi leaves.

Hell no, if the Spurs don't get something worth trading Kawai for then keep him and make him play. If he does somehow sit out then that means the Lakers are paying max contract for a guy who has barely played in 2 years to team with a superstar beginning the back end of his career. And we aren't saddled with scrubs to just take up cap space. Plus, I would be bitter enough as a front office to file for collusion.

It's essentially nothing. Need more or bring him back and see what happens

Lots of teams have traded for one year rentals to boost their playoffs run chances. Happens in every sport.

OKC traded for Paul George knowing he planned to go to LA the following year.

I wish the Spurs could file a grievance about Kawhi last year and get their money back, too.

The Lakers don't have any leverage. They don't control anything. I guess they are being smart not giving up thesee supposed assets. But that is a gamble.

The Lakers are signing both Lance Stephenson and Javale Mcgee. THey might as well trade for JR Smith

The specific example is actually less than nothing. The Spurs would literally be better off letting Kawhi walk now or letting him **** off in NY all year than tying up 18mm per year through 2020 on a guy who has been riding the bench on a terrible Lakers squad. At least Kawhi's contract is a year shorter. We would be giving a conference opponent space to make moves and filling up our own cap, space we badly need with 28mm worth of Gasol and Mills on the roster.

Throw in the opportunity cost of whatever Boston, Philly, or LAC would give up. LAC already tried Tobias Harris and at least one lottery pick, so that's the floor. Philadelphia and Boston both have decent assets that would at least contribute at a reasonable salary.

I hear Artest and Stephen Jackson might come out of retirement to play with Lebron too. Geez.
