Summer Spurs are playing the blazers right now with no Derrick White or Chimezie Metu. Expect a barrage of mookie posts calling Lonnie the worst basketball player to ever walk the earth later.
So Davis signs for 2 years at about 7 million per. Between that deal and Forbes, Spurs are doing a masterful job of blowing all of their cap space next summer on crap that will be expiring the following year. They should've offered him 1 year at 12 million before they did 2 years at that price.

Agree. I'd rather have Anderson at 9 than Forbes + Bertans at 10.
Anderson has shown the most that he can be a regular rotation player. The other 2 are fringe roster players worth little over the minimum.

Center/PF is more a position of need than SF.
Until Bertans puts on an extra weight and doesn't get knocked around, I don't consider him to be a true PF/C.
I don't disagree with you and Kyle is probably the better rebounder, but Bertans plays all his minutes at PF/C.
Plus, Pop speaks Serbian and has a hard on for other Serbs.

Maybe they've decided that too many teams are positioned for next year so the market will be too hot.
Still not sure I'd do 7 per for Bertans though. He could be worth that but he hasn't been yet.
I only watched the first half of the summer spurs yesterday. With Metu and White out, Walker and Blossomgame are the only obvious prospects on the team.
Walker looked sharp. His shooting motion has tightened up, which led to splashing a couple threes early. Doing a little better job of keeping his eyes up while dribbling. His dribble is still loose but light years better than Murray as a rookie. He had a monster put back dunk as well. He's got good ball and body control in the air.
Blossomgame could probably be a glue guy in the league, but the Spurs need a lot better passing and ball handling than what they showed last year for him to be useful. Good timing on cuts, can punch it, but doesn't create anything even on summer league.
I wish Ledbetter were bigger and faster. Tough, good shooter and great passer but not an NBA player.

Sure liked the originally reported Bertans deal better than the reality. I do think he still has some upside left, but I miss the Spurs organization that seemed to always get good value on the deals they gave out.
I'm now worried that we gave Forbes 5-6 per. Been dishing out a lot of sweet deals lately.
It was a remarkably long run of success for the Spurs, but Duncan gone, the Kawhi drama, Parker's departure, and retirement for both Manu and Pop looming over the next 1-2 years...definitely more uncertainty in San Antonio than seen in a long time.DTP02 said:

Taking the gamble on Fultz is one of the only legit chances the Spurs have to get back a potential star. I'd want to do my homework on it, but I'd rather take a gamble, and if it doesn't work out it doesn't cripple you financially for a total rebuild, than get back a handful of decent players who don't really give you the chance, or the space, to be contenders.
Being a lower-echelon playoff team without any plan for breaking out of that channel doesn't do anything for me. Try to get a real prospect, or blow it up.

Switch Chandler and Covington, throw in Mills to Philly for Bayless. Now we get two expiring contracts.
Most of their guys are still really cheap, so overpaying for a year of a vet big man with championship experience is probably more palatable than it is for the Spurs. Simmons and McConnell combined make about what Mills does. Fultz is still on a rookie deal too. Reddick is on a reasonable deal. Embiid is their only high dollar guy and he's worth it. Bayless is probably overpaid but it's only 8mm.
Gasol makes no sense on the Philly stuff unless we are getting a big from somewhere else.
Trading him makes sense if you get an expiring deal. Saves money and you get more cap space in the summer
Stretching him next year only costs us $2.2mm on the cap. Doesn't save that much
Gasol is pretty terrible now. For what he's making we could get 3 bigs who aren't materially worse. If we could cut him and take his salary off the cap I would do it happily.
With Tony Parker and Kyle Anderson gone, Pau Gasol is our best passer and will probably start at point guard this year
Gasol is a bargain if leonard wasn't ....
I really want to know what Forbes deal is worth.

On one hand, he needs game experience. On the other hand, most of the things he really needs to learn don't require use of hands. He needs to be watching film and working on defensive rotations, offensive sets and spacing, and PnR timing.
