12.5 million for a backup point isn't in any way less than market.

Guitarsoup, I appreciate you trying to explain the salary cap in your posts, but it's being wasted on most of the turkeys on this sub.

Just wanted that out there.

I think this means Manu will be back.

I wish someone could explain that basketball teams aren't fantasy squads. There's a lot of intangible and immeasurable contributions being made. Patty is a significant presence on this team and I don't think its fair to hate on him because you think he makes too much.

Love Patty. But his contract was a mistake and that's why you see it included in so many trade ideas because the Spurs want it off their books.

I love Patty and know he is a great person to have on the team, in the locker room, and in the community.

But we way overpaid for him. If we were a good/great team, Patty is a 7th man. Our 7th man should not be getting 12% of the salary cap.

I don't think anyone is hating on him, he's been a fan favorite and one of mine for a long time. That shouldn't cloud the spurs judgment on his actual value to the team, which is well short of 12mm.

Basketball teams aren't fantasy squads. You only get so much money to pay these guys, if you blow it all on intangibles and how much you like a guy you're going to end up with a crappy team.

Patty should be getting about 7% of the cap at the very, very most.

Did this professional journalist just tweet "could care less"? So, the Spurs still have room to care less?

Where are these **** whistles getting their journalism degrees from these days?

Do you need a journalism degree if your daddy is CEO of Starbucks?

Most other teams that have been in a similar situation have settled for **** sandwiches, so I'm not too surprised that other teams expect that.

Has any team traded a top 3 NBA player for the equivalent of Luol Deng and two bottom 5 firsts when that player is under contract for one more year? That is what Magic was trying to push on us.

FWIW, no other team has had a top 2-3 player sit out a year and then demand a trade when his value is at its lowest possible point.

Garnett to Boston.

Minnesota got:
Gerald Green (21yo showing some promise, but a project)
Al Jefferson (22yo and just put up 16&11)
Ryan Gomes (24yo replacement level PF)
Unprotected #6 pick (used on Johnny Flynn over Steph Curry and DeMar DeRozen)
Unprotected #28 pick (used on Wayne Ellington)

Nothing that awful, but just off the top of my head Denver got a crap return for Carmelo Anthony and the best thing Cleveland got for Kyrie was an injured Isaiah Thomas.

Difference there was Cleveland got duped on Thomas health status. It was seen by some at the time as a win for Cleveland.

Also, Denver turned that 1st round top 10 pick into Iguodala in a trade. And Gallinari was a good prospect and has become a good player.

I think Denver got plenty back.

Danilo Gallinari, Wilson Chandler, Raymond Felton, Timofey Mozgov, 2014 Knicks first-round pick, 2012 second-round pick, 2013 second-round pick

I'd rather have that haul than Melo. And because Denver got so much is the reason teams don't want to give up a ton for Kawhi. It ruined the Knicks.

Felton was putting up 17/9 for the Knicks when he was traded. Chandlr was 15/6.
Galli was putting up 15/5 and was just 22.

Isaiah Thomas had just been an MVP Candidate (29/6 on a good team) and I don't know that anyone knew just how bad his injury was then. Jae Crowder and the 8th pick. That's a hell of a lot better than Deng and two #25-30 picks.

At the time most people thought Cleveland won that deal. The difference was that Kyrie had that extra year on his deal. Kawhi just has one.

Not a huge surprise but Express News reports that sources say the Spurs are unlikely to match Anderson's offer sheet.

Because they are smart. If Memphis wants to further ruin their cap space, just get out of the way.

Next summer, Memphis has 100mm in salaries with just:
102 year old Marc Gasol
Injured Mike Conley
Injured Chandler Parsons
Rookie Jaren Jackson Jr
Slow ass Kyle Anderson

That seems suboptimal on the biggest free agent summer.
MookieBlaylock

Spurs will be in the Finals before the Grizzlies.

Right now next year the Spurs will have 73.5mm in salaries for

Kawhi
LMA
Patty
Beli
White
Lonnie
Murray

I'll take that over what the Grizzlies have, especially since it has room to sign a max-level player.

Lonnie is fine. His handles are very loose right now, but he's shown the ability to turn the corner on guys. He also shoots from a catch and shoot very well so far this summer. Off the dribble is a completely different story. He'll do like White, Murray, Anderson, and Corey Joseph did before him and spend most of the year in Austin where he can work on his game and get called up periodically. We're not relying on him this season.

Lonnie looks better than Murray and White did in their summer league debuts. Murray even looked like garbage in his second year in the summer league. Forbes out performed them both last year.

Walker has a lot of time.

I'm not real sure what you expected out of a 19 year old rookie. Every draft expert and pretty much anyone that had watched him play at all said he's super raw but has a ton of potential that's not usually available at 18. He's long, athletic, decent handles that need work, a pretty good jumper that with just a little work can be really good, he attacks the rim, and he can be a plus defender.

I'm not saying he's going to be the next superstar, but I have no clue why you're ****ting on the kid after 3 summer league games where he's improved each time out.

It is extremely unlikely that Lonnie Walker will be any better in 5 years than he was in his first two summer league games played at 19.5 years old.
