Texas A&M guard Wade Taylor IV earns third first-team All-SEC honor

Senior guard Wade Taylor IV earned first-team All-SEC honors for the third consecutive year.

It’s been a historic week for Taylor as he became the program’s all-time leading scorer and had his jersey honored in the rafters of Reed Arena. He joined Acie Law IV as the only player in program history to have their jersey honored in the rafters.

“Four” became the first Aggie since Vernon Smith to earn three consecutive first-team all-conference honors.

Averaging 15.2 points, 4.3 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game, Taylor led the Aggies to a fifth-place finish in the most competitive SEC season in recent history. He also has A&M in prime position to tie its highest NCAA Tournament seed in program history as a No. 3 seed in March Madness.

Despite missing three games in SEC play, Taylor still delivered some great moments, from his game-winning 3-pointer to beat No. 15 Missouri to his 17-point game against LSU to break A&M’s all-time scoring record.

The senior leader of the sixth most experienced team in the country, Taylor’s teammates have gravitated towards the Dallas native throughout his final season in the Maroon & White.

“Wade is a special player,” senior guard Zhuric Phelps said. “He displays it day in and day out. I wasn't surprised to see his jersey up in the rafters. Nobody does it like him."

"I'm going to tell my grandkids I used to rebound the ball for Wade Taylor," Andersson Garcia added postgame after taking down No. 1 Auburn.

Taylor has served as an exemplary representative for Texas A&M and its basketball program, becoming one of the few athletes to win the Buck Weirus Spirit Award last year, given to 75 students each year who demonstrate high involvement, create positive experiences throughout the Aggie community, impact student life at Texas A&M and enhance the Aggie Spirit.

Taylor looks to close his career as one of the best to ever wear the Maroon & White, starting with a March Madness run next week. For now, he’ll enjoy reaching rarified air as one of the only players in SEC history to earn first-team honors three years in a row.

Taylor is within reach of becoming the SEC Tournament’s all-time leading scorer and the 28th player in SEC history to score 2,000 points.

The accomplishments keep adding up for one of the greatest players in program history.
