I feel like a lot of it is Prescott. He hasn't been quite the same QB since that calf injury.

Agree. He doesn't look 100% physically. You have to think that calf gets better this last month of the season.

Exactly my thoughts. I think he just can't plant and sling it accurately just yet. There may be more wrong than he wants to be out there and he's just trying to play through it. The schedule has been pretty weak as of late and the defense is playing well, so it hasn't been a major problem.

Shout out to D-Law yesterday. Registered zero sacks and yet had one of the better games of his career. Pressured the QB and disrupted the running game by being in the back field on many occasions, one fantastic forced fumble and one QB hit that resulted in an easy pop fly INT for Jordan Lewis.

The guy was a monster yesterday!

Rams or cards in round 1 would be horrible.

Just get 3 or better. Anything else is gravy.

The Cardinals have looked way worse than Dallas I've ether last several weeks, and Hopkins may not be back for the wild card round.

The pass protection is the biggest issue right now. The Cowboys OL pass protection win rate is 27th in the NFL since the Denver game when Dak returned. Combine that with facing heavy zone looks and Kellen Moore's tendency to always for the downfield throws and you get what you see.

This! I think the inexperience of both the players and Kliff is starting to show. Between the Rams and the Cardinals, I would rather play the Cards.

Well they play in 2 weeks, so you'll get your chance.

Also, it's not looking like anyone is going to be able to rest their starters in week 18 this year, which is weird to say. At least no one in the top of the NFC.

I'd hate to play the Cards if their playoff hope rested on the game.

Which it looks like it will.

TB just lost Godwin for the year. Absolutely no sympathy for injuries or Covid losses for our competition. We've dealt with plenty of it ourselves all year... whatever makes our path to a Super Bowl easier is OK with me.

Indeed.

Random thought while watching raiders/browns. It's amazing to me how thin the line is in the NFL, when it comes to success. If the cowboys pull out the win against the raiders in OT, they are currently the 1 seed and complete control of their own destiny. Oh well, just win baby.

Yes. One other thing I think about a lot while watching the rest of the league. QB play is pretty damn bad….as a Cowboys fan, we talk a lot about Dak not being right or in a slump, but imagine being a fan of teams that just have zero hope because they are so pitiful at QB. How demoralizing.

Learned that lesson quickly and permanently post Aikman!

It's the reason why I never hated Romo and won't be a Dak hater... we are dang lucky to have gotten both of them!

And this is why being a cowboy fan is hard now. 2 top 10 QBs in the league for over a decade. Won 3 playoff games total.

I agree, and I try not to hate on Dak too much. It's just that we know he can play so much better, so it's frustrating watching him the past few weeks. I can only imagine how frustrated he is with himself. In his defense, there were probably about 50 yards worth of drops yesterday, so it's definitely not all him.

Eta I remember very well what a **** show the cowboys qb situation was between aikman and Romo, and we've been damn lucky to go from Romo to Dak. Macarthur is right, qb play is very bad in about 75% of the league right now.

I'd argue some of it was a combination of bad luck and bad matchups, but we also had Jason Garrett as our coach for about 10 years and lost the coaching battle in just about every game by default.

Then again drawing the giants in 2007 and the Rodgers led packers in both divisional rounds in 2014 / 2016 with some of the weirdest calls ever going against us really sucks.

Sturm has some good analysis. This is what Dak is facing a lot.

So what's the solution? Start lining up heavy and punish with the run, or throw 5 WR sets to overload the zone? Seems like we should have adapted to this weeks ago. It's pretty much the game plan for crippling our offense for the last 6 weeks

Need to run the ball better. OL has been banged up as has Zeke.

Start ripping off 7-12 yard runs and they'll back out of those looks. Also, Schultz is a dagger to the zone. Glad to see him coming out of the slump somewhat.

Our biggest issue has been self-inflicted in my opinion. We're still committing way too many penalties. Dak is turning the ball over too much. And we have a tendency to drop balls on key downs. Gallup is good for 1 easy drop per game. Lamb for 2.

Dak is good for 1-2 TO per game. That potentially kills 3-5 drives per game. Not good enough when you avg. 10-12 possessions a game.
Macarthur

Yeah, you gotta be able to run the ball against 2 high safeties. It's interesting that C. Williams went back into the starting lineup and the run game was better this past game.

I was one that wanted McGovern to replace him, but I admit I was wrong. And apparently the coaches were too....Weird that a guy that everyone was going on and on about being ready to take over just completely bombed.

Once Tyron gets back, the OL should be stabilized for the stretch run and if the running game gets back to decent to good, that will open things up for the passing game again.

And yes, a good TE can eat up a zone too, so Schultz becomes a weapon.

The OLine play has been the most obvious difference between the early part of the season and now. I thought they were coming off the ball really well and then it all changed. I guess Smith's injury is part of it. Subbing in Mcgovern did happen right around the time they started struggling. Zeke got injured. Jarwin's loss had an impact. It's a lot of things.

No doubt, and going back to a post earlier, the Cowboys aren't the only one's dealing. It's a war of attrition late in the season. I mean Tom Brady got shut out for goodness sake.

I only see one offense that is really humming along and that's GB. The good news for the Cowboys is that with Tyron coming back and Williams back in the lineup, I think things could def get better. I also think each week Dak get further from the calf, the better he will feel.

I feel like part of the issue with the O-line is Kellen keeps calling plays that take too long to develop. This plays right into the defenses that are currently being called against us (zone with lots of guys dropping back). Causes Dak to hold the ball a bit and now we have pressure/sacks/negative plays.

We have an athletic QB that can throw on the move. We have one of the best route runners in the NFL (Cooper) and 2 guys (Lamb & Pollard) that are in the upper tier of "dangerous in space" NFL players. Kellen has to do a much better job of using mis-direction and creative ways to quickly & easily get our guys the ball. The WR screen and naked bootleg plays aren't fooling anyone. We have to start killing defenses on the quick stuff, otherwise they are just going to keep playing over the top and frustrating our offense!

I'd be fine if we didn't run another WR screen for the rest of the season. I don't think there's ever been a championship team that used the WR screen as a staple of its offense.

(This is hyperbole. Feel free to explain how elite teams use this play effectively.)

The key is the outside blocking by WRs for TEs. Ours stink at this. New England and Green Bay come to mind as teams that are good at it.

I'd rather put Lamb in motion and do a quick swing pass to him instead of the WR screen. Let him catch the ball in the flats already running at half speed and see what he can do with it.

For that matter, the jet sweeps work pretty well. He's carried the ball 8 times and gotten a 1st down 4 times. One went for 33 yds.

This ref crew for Rams/Seahawks is the same one as the cowboys had against the raiders. They choose not to call that obvious PI, but threw a flag on brown for breathing on the receiver. If that wasn't PI then browns last one definitely wasn't.

I hope Goodwin makes a full recovery for next year, but I'm glad to see other competitors have some bad luck with injuries / covid. It seems like the cowboys have cornered the market on bad injury luck in the last few years.

I do love how the defense has been playing and its been good vs a few good qb's, but at the same time, they've gotten to play a lot of bad and backup qb's. So I'm not totally sold yet on how well it will show in the playoffs when there are no more bad offenses. It's clearly got some holes like Brown. The offense has to sharpen up
