Ok, I am fine that this week's offerings don't appeal to me.

So this week Xur brought what I think is the most desireable helm for Warlocks (especially Sunsingers), the undisputed best helm for Gunslinger Hunters, and a Titan chest that everyone has been clamoring for since it gives them one more grenade. Great week!
Pretty sure I'm going to buy the Light Beyond Nemesis and pass on Truth, although the Void damage makes it nice for this current raid. I already have Gjallarhorn, and it already one-shots Minotaurs during Templar, even though I haven't finished upgrading it yet (just need to farm some more relic iron).
I don't like the design of putting the raid helms only in VoG hard mode, because it tends to make people prefer exotic helms over any other exotic slot. There are lots of cool exotic chests, but they don't make as much sense if you're trying to level up to 29-30 asap for hard mode.
On the PS4, we're always looking for a crew to run with for VoG and both weekly story and nightfall. We usually do the weekly story on Tues nights and either the nightfall or VoG on Wed nights.

Also, just realized that I will not be fully upgrading my Legendary Armor. Once you get RAID gear, you need all the shards and energies you can horde to level them up, to get to level 30. If you max out your legendary armor youll still be stuck on 29. I dont know if this was already mentioned here, but there are too many damn posts to read through lol.
Need to farm for some mats today. Yuck. Also have to grind more fusion rifle kills in the nightfall.

And yeah, you are right. I'm having a hard time wasting my shards on gear I KNOW I'm going to replace with raid gear. I'll probably upgrade just enough to get to level 28.
That said, once you start doing the raid a lot, the shards do come.

So almost two months after release, there is still only one raid? And from what I could tell on the wiki, you have to pay $20 each for DLCs which will have one additional raid each, which are the only other confirmed raids.

I've put over 50 hours into a game I paid $50 for. Seems like a pretty damn good ROI to me.

I would imagine the majority of people will never even do Vault of Glass..
If you compare the amount of content to a typical MMO, or especially WoW, which has a monthly fee, it looks bad.
If you compare it to a typical $60 console game (which it is, ignoring the MMO features), the amount of content seems pretty darn good.
That's not to say I'm not annoyed with Bungie, because I am. Lack of things to do just isn't why. And to be fair, I'm am old married dude with two small kids, so it's not like I can pump dozens of hours into this a week. There's plenty of content given the amount of time I have. One night a week I do the Nightfall and then the 28 Weekly Heroic. One night a week I try to raid. Three nights a week I do stuff with my wife. That leaves two nights where I might even wonder what I'm going to do - patrols/bounties/public events, Daily Heroics, Tiger Strikes, Crucible...there are plenty of options for me.
Speaking of raids, I tried PUGing the raid for the first time last night. It wasn't pretty, but we cleared the whole thing! We cheesed both bosses, with me single-handedly saving our first Templar attempt by going Radiant and lobbing the last few grenades. Now, you really don't need to cheese Templar imho, but this method did result in getting the 5th chest to spawn, so that's cool. The only non-mat loot I got was Chatterwhite shader and the raid chest, but the chest alone was pretty thrilling. I got the gloves last week in a group of folks who went in blind and got through Templar. Just need to level up the chest and Light Beyond Nemesis and I'll be 29.

I think they should add matchmaking for past raids once expansions start rolling out and the number of raids increases.
Doing the same thing over and over again is not fun. If crucible wasn't such a disaster this game might be ok. Right now this game feels like if should be free to play with anything off earth being paid DLC.
Full disclosure: I have never played and have no desire to play any MMORPG. That said, I love online shooters, adventure RPGs, open world sandbox games. This game is trying to do it all and it just doesn't work, in my opinion. I bought into the hype and now I feel like a sucker.

I'm loving it. I don't see any big problems with the Crucible, except that Salvage should always be available, and CTF should be added.
The PVE content is fun with other people. Much of the game is really only fun with others. I'm from an MMO background, so I'm digging it. I was just running Strikes with my FPS playing brother and his friend, and they are starting to learn some MMO lessons that I had already learned on WoW.

To Bryan's point, I think the RPG/MMO crowd (who are used to this type of grindy thing) greatly enjoy the end game content due to the grinding and challenge. I'm one of these people...along with my friends who still play. Daily.
I went from liking it, to be being disappointed with the lack of content, back to greatly enjoying it once my friends bought copies and I got caught up in grinding.
I PUGed on Friday and we cleared the Vault in 2 hours. Some guys had done it before, 2 hadn't. Including me. I thought we did pretty well.
And I loved that content. It really makes the grind worth it.

It's a lot easier to organize a raid using the party chat system than it is texags.

I found a group using DestinyLFG.net on Friday that managed to clear VoG (I couldn't find a group on Reddit at the time I was starting). I'm going to try r/Fireteams tonight to see about a VoG HM run. I hit 29 today, and maxed out my Shadow Price and Gjallarhorn.
So, I did try my hand at VoG Hard Mode tonight. Wow. It really is hard.
To be more realistic, you could not pug the current top content raid in WoW, ever. You can pug lesser stuff, and older content, and maybe pug the current one after it has been out and they made adjustments to make it easier.
That's not really true. I PUGed Naxx in WotLK in the first couple weeks, way before Ulduar released. I PUGed Icecrown a ton. I also ran with my guild, but when schedules didn't align, I PUGed.
You might argue that I didn't PUG Icecrown hard mode, but I'm comparing PUGing normal modes to normal VoG here.
In any case, this debate is about the tools to meet other players and PUG content, not about the difficulty or whatever. VoG normal is beaten by PUGs every day, and while I don't think matchmaking is a great idea, I think some in-game tools for finding groups would be nice. The real challenge is figuring out how to execute that in a system without text chat.

Since I have gotten Shadows of Mordor I have used my limited playing time to focus on that ... I enjoy Destiny but Bungie is too interested in making the player play the game the way that they want you too, which is not necessarily the way the masses want to play.

The Atheon timestream change is different, and I won't argue on that, but gun buffs/nerfs is par for the course for any multiplayer FPS title these days.
i pushed Atheon off the cliff for my first time last night, I was giddy. Managed to get him to the ledge fairly quickly. When "time's vengeance" first comes up, he doesn't move for a few seconds, so I completely surrounded him with void grenades and nova bombs. He fell off just right before time's vengeance ran out.
I have some friends with a Hard Mode Checkpoint at Atheon. Gonna see if i can push him off again tonight.

Seriously! You can't revive people, so you need to be able to go for 15-20 minutes at a time with no one dying (except Sunsingers). If you don't at least make it through to a phase transition, you didn't make any progress.
I PUGed into what seemed like a really decent group (better than the group I cleared normal VoG with on Friday) last night. The group was all 29s and one 30. We were starting at the beginning of Templar, with defending the confluxes. We made it to the third part, where you defend three confluxes, one time. You have to pass that section to get a checkpoint and have made any progress. We worked on it for about an hour and a half with no success.
I consistently had the fewest kills despite having a fully leveled Shadow Price and Gjallarhorn. I guess I'm going to focus on normal VoG and try to get the boots (the only piece I still need to hit 30) and Atheon's Epilogue. I'm also going to try and level Crucible rep to 3 to get the legendary purple Fusion rifle.
This certainly makes me feel even more strongly about how an exotic helm is the only logical choice, since level matters so much and the raid helm only drops on hard. I'm not sure I'm going to try Hard again until I'm 30.
