i've been holding out for the praxis chest plate, but spent all my coins on the icebreaker to help in solo strikes. Naturally, i got a random crucible drop for patience and time 10 minutes later. now i have two exotic snipers and not even a legendary primary (really wish trading was allowed).

i'm going to start hitting the heroic strikes hard to get shards. i have some gear leveling to do. Should be on between 9-12 on weeknights if anyone wants to hit nightfall etc. I may try solo-ing the nightfall now that i have the unlimited ammo sniper.

You don't really get shards from strikes except for potentially the engram you can get.

The only surefire way is the lvl 28 daily mission and from public events.

Also hoping for praxic fire.

Even that is not 'surefire' bc you could get ascendant energy, which is needed as well. Seems like I get more energy than shards.

I would recommend playing all the way through the story as you level, because it gives very useful Vanguard rep and you're not going to want to play level 7 missions when you're 20.

I say this because, like you, I did a lot of leveling in the Crucible. And I had fun! But I should have done the missions.


Or get leveled all the way up then play the story with the heroic modifier on and gives you more xp to upgrade your armor

Anytime I need mats of any kind, I just start doing patrols on the appropriate planet. I seem to find more that way, and earn rep and XP as well.

The city portions of Mars have been the best for me by far. They have lots of those little dark rooms where the devs always have possible chest spawns.

Spirit Blooms and Relic Irons are the hardest for me. I have a great spot for helium on Moon and I rarely use Spinmetal so it accumulates.

Be sure to check every cave/closet/etc for chests. Chests ib patrol almost always give iron/spirit bloom/spin metal. Sometimes you get better goodies the longer you chest farm. On 2 different occasions, I have gotten ascendant energy and a purple engram after about an hour of chest farming on the moon.

Go to the area on Mars where the axis Minotaur and axis harpy spawn amongst all those buildings and just make a big circle, checking all the little rooms in the buildings for chests.

Using this route I was able to get about 70 relic in under an hour.

I was able to do the nightfall mission last night in a 2 person team.
Took a lot of patience. We worked exclusively out of the map entry point to take out the Archon Priest.

Spirit bloom has one of the best/easiest chest runs. Just go left from the spawn at venus and in that next area with the captain and a bunch of low level fallen there are like 8-9 caves that all have the potential to spawn chests in addition to a few chest spawns that aren't in caves. Run it in a circle and every time you make a full loop the route will reset all the chests, so you never even have to leave the area.

I'm sure there are plenty of youtube vids if you're interested. I would offer to show you but I'm on the other console.

I mainly struggle with helium (but I don't need it for my gear, so it works out). I used to struggle with spinmetal but thanks to the rocketyards run (and a bit of the king's cross exploit) I have plenty of that now. Relic Iron the run I use isn't great but isn't terrible. I'll have to try the other one mentioned in this thread.

Archer's light has several caves/chest/and Helium spawns that I really like. Can usually get enough for an upgrade in two to three runs. It is also imperative to have your kill rank on that world at level 2 as it raises the chances of getting 2 of the mat for the world.

what is the best/fastest way for strange coins and motes of light? Vanguard missions? Patrols? I thought I had enough for the exotic sniper rifle from Xur last weekend but nope.

The only guaranteed source of Strange Coins is the Weekly Heroic Strike. Running it at level 28 pays 9 SCs.

Yep, that and I've noticed that if I turn in 10+ blue engrams at once ( just hold on to them and let them accumulate), I almost always get at least one strange coin.

I've also gotten some from time to time from the vanguard tiger strike playlist.

Is there a texags raid team? I have a 28 warlock and am always looking to run VoG. I have 5 friends that are also in the 27/28 range but we are hardly ever on at the same time, although there is usually a few of us.

Around a month. I played really hard at the beginning and then dwindled off. It was just hard getting on everyday with some buddies to get enough ascendant shards from the lvl 28 daily heroic.

I convinced 5 friends who were die hard COD guys to give it a try. All of them hate halo style gameplay and they all love Destiny. None of them had MMO experience, either.
