Happens in every sport. He's a "big name" and has outstanding physical attributes. Other club fan bases will always think players like that will be different on their team. I'm guilty of it too. Unfortunately for them in this case, the guy just sucks at playing LB

I actually thought Jalen was playing okay the last couple games. His size comes in handy at times.

But I'm not grading film. I've got to beleive if he was at least decent they'd keep him around. The savings isn't all that significant.

Many cowboy fans were hoping to see this move. Although I expected to see it in the offseason. The linebacker depth is unreal tho and I don't think this will slow us down at all. They probably weren't getting any bites on the trade market.

It's not like they cut any real talent that they weren't able to get back. And his 2021 salary guaranteed in March, before they knew they'd end up with Parsons and Cox. They went into that draft with a plan to hit CB hard, but it worked out to where the surprise windfall ended up being LB. The contract was bad, but nothing they did this offseason was a bad move

The advantage was that now we're not at risk for an insurance payout if he had gotten injured.

The report is that he had an injury clause going into this year as well as next year. And guess what... he had offseason wrist surgery. A bit of gamesmanship from Jaylone & his agent? Once that happened they couldn't cut him... well, they could have, but his salary was guaranteed either way.

So, the strategy was to let him play, hopefully put some decent film out there, make sure the new guys could play, and hope somebody would want to trade something for him.

Gilmore:

Man, that Pats game in a couple weeks just got easier.

No idea how we would fit him into the cap, but never underestimate Jerry's ability to sell the Cowboys brand. Don't see anything long term getting done here (can't interfere with our young studs we want to pay), but a 1 year "Come to the Cowboys, play well, and get a big payday next year" has worked in the past.

And I'm with you guys... if the guy can still play a high level (no idea, I haven't watched him play) he it most definitely could be the piece that puts this team over the top. Our CB opposite Diggs is honestly the only somewhat weak spot on the entire team right now.

Yeah, he is a guy that is coming off injury and is on the wrong side of 30. I think he's still got game, but he's def on the back side of his career. It would be a no brainer if this were just about renting a guy this year to make a run, but I don't know if you can do that because he's going to want a commitment on an extension.

The Bucs lost their top 3 corners. There's a reason they signed Sherman to begin with. He's washed at this point.

The release wasn't scheduled to be official till this afternoon so teams that wanted to trade for him still could. All that Carolina gave up was a 6th round pick.

The one thing I cannot figure out... why in the absolute heck did we put injury clauses into Jaylon's contract? The contract already included crazy guaranteed money, why the need to also included year to year injury clauses?

Some people never thought he'd walk again coming into the NFL and we allowed injury clauses?
