The math on whether to deal him or not is very simple. Do you plan on spending in this off-season to build a legitimate contender in 2021?
If the answer is yes, then you keep him and try to work a long-term deal knowing that worst case you have him cheap for 2 years on a competitive club.
If the answer is "we're going to add some pieces if they are available" (read: piece-meal like we've done the last 3-4 offseasons) then you dangle him to the 2021 and 2022 contenders with the remainder of 2020 being a bonus.
Unfortunately we all know what we're going to get -- keep him, no significant contending moves in the off-season, and then try and deal him at the 2021 or 2022 deadlines and suddenly find the market isn't what we hoped.
