OK, let's breathe people. It was a really rough last 4 games vs. one team. It is possible that we just don't match up well with San Diego for whatever reason. Nobody expected us to be a playoff team, but we have the ability to play better baseball than this.
Other teams go through garbage series like this . . . NYY just got swept at home by TB. If we go up to SEA and get smacked around, OK, we're done. But if we take 2 of 3, we can come home and play good baseball vs. OAK, LAD, and HOU. I'd rather tank vs. SD, a team that has no bearing on our playoff chances, than OAK and HOU.
Other teams go through garbage series like this . . . NYY just got swept at home by TB. If we go up to SEA and get smacked around, OK, we're done. But if we take 2 of 3, we can come home and play good baseball vs. OAK, LAD, and HOU. I'd rather tank vs. SD, a team that has no bearing on our playoff chances, than OAK and HOU.

For every guy playing below what his career #'s say, there's been a couple of guys playing well above what their likely production is. Yeah Elvis should be hitting a lot better, but Kiner-Falefa also isn't a 4+ WAR player.
Any amount of "staying in the playoff hunt" will be a result of shortened season and expanded playoffs.
