The NBA is telling Cuban not so fast...anthem is required for all teams.
I don't have a big opinion one way or the other on this. I'm a millennial and see both sides to it. It does seem somewhat weird to play the national anthem before sporting events that are not the olympics or world cup. However, we've done it for a long time now, so it is a tradition (yes, I know there was a time we didn't play it, but it's a tradition at this point). And I personally love it before big games, as it builds the tension and does at least allow people to drunkenly think about how good we have it here. I know that people don't have those thoughts every game, and some may never have those thoughts, but there are some really cool moments associated with the Anthem that I have liked over the years.
Again, I don't have a huge opinion on it and see both sides, but if given the choice I'd prefer that it stays. I admit it's a little weird, but sporting events are basically the only events where people hear the National Anthem played. If all teams were to take the anthem away, most people would go years or longer without being anywhere where it was played (99.9% of people are never going to attend the olympics or world cup). Also, this seems like Cuban just wanting to get out in front of stuff, thinking that all the other teams will think he was brilliant and follow his ways. Reminds me of the Mavs retiring Kobe's jersey, which was dumb as ***** Cuban clearly thought all teams would do that and wanted to be the first. Then, no other teams retired Kobe's jersey (why would they?) and Cuban looked like a dumbass.

Club/Pro games in any sport it makes no sense and never did.
I don't personally care for Cuban's reasoning of "the anthem doesn't represent people", but it's a free country and people are allowed to be dense. The people I really feel for are the attention seeking singers who always butchered the song.

People forget how much the USA has marketed itself around the world through sports.

I would argue that forcing a private organization to play a national anthem is more akin to "facist" behavior, although that term has become overused. Furthermore, the argument that playing the national anthem before games helps to positively shape the American outlook (i.e. pride and/or gratitude) is unconvincing based on my experience. It has not been my experience that either myself or the crowd around me meditates on the American experience during the anthem. This is to be expected considering that it is an entertainment venue which is unaffiliated with Team USA. While playing the national anthem as a custom doesn't bother me, it certainly doesn't enhance my experience as an NBA fan or American citizen.chick79 said:

I'd love to have him but hard to gauge his market price. The Mavs should definitely consider it though considering the cap space they have and the dwindling free agent options.awinlonghorn said:

Plus his salary is only $4m which actually makes it harder for the Mavs (as our expiring contracts are both in the high teens; THJ and James Johnson).

Kristaps is so soft it's infuriating. Especially on defense. That series with about 8 minutes left in the third where he didn't jump for an easy rebound and a blazer player snatched it out of his hands and dunked...

Josh Richardson sadly has become a very large disappointment. A guy who was supposed to be your best defenders has to get help often. Not to mention he can't seem to shoot for anything...
Yea he and Kp have been by far the biggest anchors to this team. Richardson's pre season performance had me falsely excited.
Very unsurprising people showed back up to hate on KP, weird that they disappeared.

The guy is supposed to be a stud. Instead he's pretty inconsistent. This was supposed to be a 2 superstar team with a good supporting cast. It isn't.
KP at present is a fine support guy, but he isn't a star day in and day out. Nothing wrong with being concerned by that.

It was a gamble getting him from The knicks and the hope was that he'd bulk up and be more intimidating defensively.
The gamble isn't paying off. He's soft as charmin still and nobody is scared of him. Damian Lillard is 6'3 and scoring layups over him.
We'd be better off with Enes Kanter.
It's painful to admit that Shawn Bradley played better Defense than KP...
