Really solid win over Carson.

Mary playing this well has to start the year #1. That will enable Carson to be a great #2. Similar to what happened with Tati who seemed to embrace #2 and only get better.

There are a few more big time players coming in January. Probably best that everyone holds their horses in regards to the lineup. I do agree that Mary is playing the best tennis right now, however.

She's still on the table. Plus one more from Russia or Hungary, can't remember. Been 17 years since I've been in the sport so my sources aren't as sharp as they used to be. Just a fan now.

Mary just played lights out on Sunday. It was amazing watching how she made so many shots, and I mean GREAT shots. Not just returns, but returns with a good bit of zip and many of them RIGHT ON THE LINE. Imagine running in all 4 directions in consecutive shots and each shot being made with authority. It reminded me of CSQ when she'd just not allow her opponent 1 more point. She was truly on a different level Sunday. Not to detract from Mary's performance but Carson was dealing with issues that kept her from performing at 100%. If Mary stays healthy, she'll either cream anybody at #2 or give just about anyone at #1 the biggest run for their money they will have all year. Mark has to make the call, but I wonder if he'd call them in separately or together to work out any egos that may need to be addressed? And like so many are stating here, Mia hasn't even shown up yet and every lady on the team describes her with wide eyes and glowing accolades. She and the girl "supposedly" coming in from Russia. The best thing about all this is January is much closer than it was a few months ago, so the wait won't have to be too much longer.

Mary ranked #9, but I think she deserves a top 5 ranking!

Jayci, Gianna, and Jeanette all ranked. Carson is missing. Not a bad start

Remember the Tom Hanks line from "A League of Their Own", "If it was easy anybody could do it." Consider this, we can take the top 6 ladies RIGHT NOW, and be in contention up to the round of 16. Add 2 more recruits in January where at least one if not both shoulder out 2 existing ladies in the lineup and we just need to stay healthy. Plus, nobody is saying anything about doubles. Last year Jayci and Tati lost what 3 matches? And Mary and Carson were right on their heels for wins. Remember if we continue our success in doubles, for ANY team to beat 4 of our singles players is going to be EXTREMELY hard. Doubles is KEY! I predict right now that we will not lose a single match IF we win doubles. And I said it all last year, rankings don't mean Jack S**T until April 2023. I get excited too to see us climb up the charts, but having a target on your back all year long gets pretty nerve racking. Let Howard at (tu) carry that load for awhile, we'll take over when we get to Florida in May.

Uninteresting sidenote: Ironically I had "Victory Song" stuck in my head this afternoon except it kept repeating "we're all canadian". Thanks a lot, Carson.

Man...I hope so. I hated to see tu win it all in person. Including watching the mens win it all 3 yrs ago. But congrats to them. I'll be in Florida again to see what we can do there!

Anchor, I read your post and just kept saying, "Patience is a virtue, patience is a virtue" but I still have a hard time convincing myself of this fact. Don't get me wrong, I am spitting and cussing too when we aren't in the top 5 with a lineup like we HAD and what we should HAVE come conference time. But Bobby made the comment years ago what I put on here and it has proven to be true year in and year out.

I would agree with your ideas, Jayci is the type player that seems to meld best with any teammate. And until she changes (which I hope she never does) Mary certainly appears to be the cornerstone upon which to form the team around. Mia (correct me if I'm wrong) has had better success in doubles than singles. And since she IS listed on the roster, put her with Jayci and let the chemistry of Mary and Carson continue. Something else that nobody has brought up that I've seen, Gianna has definitely improved her mental game. Watching her this fall she appears to be more able to figure out solutions to try and she isn't as reckless on her shot selections. Her highs and lows are still there, but nowhere near as dramatic as last year.

The thing I am most thankful for is our depth. There are a few ladies on the team that may not see that much match time, but knowing they are there and capable ought to certainly (hopefully) allow Mark to sleep well at night.

Bottom line, we have got 12 well conditioned, snarling, fighting, quick and fast, dedicated, proud, focused, mentally tough top notch tennis players that are going to be a tough out for anybody. We went undefeated last year in conference and we stand a very good chance of doing the same thing this year. Granted our schedule isn't as favorable this year (home/away) based upon the perceived level of competition as it was last year but if Mark puts together a winning combination early and everybody's egos stay in place and nobody gets seriously injured (can you tell I worked in the government putting all these conditions out there) prepare for another ring ceremony at another Fightin' Texas Aggie football game next fall. I hope everyone on here that can shows up this Saturday night for the girls unveiling ring ceremony
