Digging our own holes or looking at our roster - this team goes deep!

You have to feel solid about our singles lineup, but we had an off day in doubles. I've seen this coming for a while. We have amazing singles players that win lots of doubles matches, but we ran into a doubles clinic today playing Miami. They were crossing and poaching and putting so much pressure on us. Need to work on meshing as doubles teams moving forward.

Great team win Aggies! Maybe we will get a Carson update now. Gig'em!!

I was able to watch this one live today and agree with what others are sharing.

This team showed a lot of heart. Miami came out on fire in doubles and carried it over to singles before we turned things around.

We won two singles matches after losing the first set 6-1. Amazing mental toughness.

If Carson can get healthy, we can win it all.

What a great comeback! Wasn't looking good there for a while. From what I could tell it doesn't look like Carson has any major sort of injury so my guess is this is far more than a physical injury. Hopefully she can come around and contribute to the team winning it all this year.

Also got to watch it live! It was a great competitive match. You can tell that they are trying to figure out doubles again with the new lineups. Mary and Mia are probably the most talented, but definitely hesitated and were unsure most points.

Singles was such a great effort! Considering we won the match with 4 points from freshmen and sophomores, it's impressive. Almost everyone was down or lost the first set and stayed with it. Mary….. nails. Mia is so consistent. Daria was a fighter. Jeanette is the consistency we've needed at 6. Jayci struggled but still pulled out a win. Our depth shined today! Great job ladies

Great win. Miami's doubles teams were really good at the net and then they won the first set in 3 of the singles matches. Stoiana and Goldsmith had great come from behind wins. Kupres and Smetannikov won their matches within a minute of each other. Team should feel really good about this win.

I think Miami just had a really good day in doubles and we had a really bad day. Not a good combination. Miami has actually struggled in doubles this year and according to the press release they all have losing records. Another excellent win by our ladies against a very good team.

Whatever they did worked. We just could not get going. Thankfully it didn't matter, but I sure do think we should be easily winning line 3 doubles every match. We just look really tentative when it gets tight and unfortunately tentative doesn't win at this level.

From what I'm seeing, we were much stronger in doubles last season. I know coach Weaver mentioned he thinks we are stronger this year, but it hasn't translated just yet. Maybe it will! Mary and Carson and Jayci and Salma at lines 1 and 2 really free up line 3 to play looser. Hoping we get Carson back soon, especially in doubles. Either way, I'm sure they will work it out.

Match point for Mary. Just so freaking good. What a scrapper she is!!

I think losing Carson hurts us more in doubles than it does in singles. Carson's record in doubles has been far better than her singles record.

That can be argued. But pushing Salma to 3 and the rest of the lineup down a spot makes us that much stronger. Carson is a fantastic doubles player. During juniors, she won the French Open, the Australian Open and was a semi finalist at Wimbledon. But, when Carson is playing at her best, she's very hard to beat in singles. She was also a quarter finalist in juniors at Wimbledon and the US Open. We are infinitely better with her in the lineup when she's healthy.

AT TEXAS A&M

Posted a 17-9 record in singles coupled with a strong 21-3 mark in doubles action…

The main place we see a difference with Carson is moving everyone else down a spot. Having Mia at 4 and Jayci at 5 makes us very dangerous against anyone in the country.

Looks like Auburn has dropped their last two SEC matches, losing 5-2 to Georgia and 6-1 to Tennessee.

Tennessee is dangerous and hungry. They've always been a headache to play, but this year they look to be contenders. No super stars but just solid smart tennis. I'd circle that one on our calendars.

Yeah - for sure - I definitely remember sweating that match last year when we play at Tennessee.

Partly joking and partly serious. She did lose more matches than Tatiana, Mary and Jayci did combined at the 2,3 and 4 positions.

She was playing against the other team's best player every match. She was ranked #8 in the country. She would have probably gone undefeated at 4 so I'm not sure what the point of comparing records there is.

We know she reads this and she's obviously going through something difficult. I would think that as an "Aggie tennis fan" you would want to build her up and not take cheap shots while she's down.

These are not cheap shots. Those are actual statistics from the A&M website.

Don't try to walk it back now. Calling an All-American who helped take her team within a match of a championship a "stack" is a cheap shot. Calling anyone a stack even if it's true is definitely never positive.

Knowing all the factors in play here what's your goal in writing this stuff? Do you think you're helping the situation?

Facts speak for themself. Look at the nationally ranked opponents record. I don't see much difference playing 1,2 or 3.

Tatiana Makarova 32-4 overall record in singles play with a 27-1 mark in the dual match campaign… Compiled a 16-3 ledger against nationally-ranked opponents.

Mary Stoiana 14-2 against nationally ranked opponents
27-2 record in dual match singles.

Jayci Goldsmith 26-2 ledger in dual match play

Carson Branstine posted a 17-9 record. 14-7 overall record against nationally-ranked
opponents

The point you are trying to make is ridiculous.

Carson is one of the best singles / doubles players in the country and we are fortunate she decided to play at A&M. Most school's don't have depth like us, UNC, etc. but almost every D1 school has a good #1.

Carson is an all-american that helped elevate this program to national title contention. The same is true for Tati, Mary, Jayci and others. Carson likely would have had been just as dominate at 2, 3 or 4. It's also easy to overlook how good she is at doubles.

I actually think Mary should be #1 and Carson #2 when they are both fully healthy but my opinion on that doesn't really matter. They are both elite.

I don't know what is going on behind the scenes but this team goes from great to potentially our best ever with Carson on it.

Playing the 1 line is brutal! I think many of us in this forum have played tennis at some level, and many of us have played at the collegiate level. Coming back from injury and attempting to reach the same level as before is so so so hard. In my experience, it took almost 2 years before I felt as comfortable as I did before the injury, and even then, you second guess yourself. What finally clicks is that although your game has changed, you find new strengths and ultimately turn into a better player as you mature. Sometimes living up to others' expectations (and even your own) is overwhelming. You can't be everything for everybody. Just be better today than you were yesterday. I truly believe that.

Let me preface this next speculation by saying I have NO idea what is going on with Carson. BUT, from watching her matches, especially over the last few weeks, I'm wondering if she's having some vertigo/dizziness or something. I say that just because of how I've seen her try to focus herself at the baseline during doubles after points. WHATEVER it is; I would put Carson on the 1 or 2 line and at the 1 line in doubles in the blink of an eye and not think twice, and I'd say just play within yourself and be the best you can be today. That's all coach Weaver can truly ask. And against MOST competition, with someone like Carson and her ability and talent, that will be enough.

Praying for some answers for her fans; for the teams fans, and above all, a speedy recovery for her overall.

I didn't know that I wasn't entitled to my opinions on this forum. Is there a forum that I can go to and express my opinions. The national ranked opponent win loss stat is very telling. She also has a losing record against ranked opponents this year where as Mary and Mia both have excellent records against ranked opponents.

With "fans" like you, who needs enemies?
aggietennisfan
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Why am I an enemy? Carson is obviously an excellent tennis player. My point is that it hurts for her to be out of the lineup more so in doubles than in singles. In my opinion, she should be playing 3 or 4 on this team. That isn't meant to be derogatory towards her by any means. That's just my opinion.

I'm not trying to take sides, but I'm a big UTR guy and I think it is the best thing since sliced bread. Mary and Mia have significantly higher UTRs than everyone else on the team. Carson, Salma and Jayci have basically the same UTR. Jeannette and Daria aren't too far behind.
