Gentlemen,

I lived in Atlanta for several years in late 90's, so Braves are my favorite NL team.

Question - this trade seems like A LOT being given up for - a set up man? Is the idea that this is the missing piece to get over the top?

Gotta admit I saw the trade on Twitter this morning and immediately looked to see if it was a parody account.

If they weren't going to tender contracts to Lopez and Soroka anyway then no loss. Keep in mind Soroka only has one year left. Shewmake hasn't hit well in the minors so at most was likely a utility guy. Shuster likely wasn't going to contribute anything that you can't replace with another min salary guy.

What this does do is clear out 40 man roster spots and get a guy back who had a bad looking ERA but a much better FIP.

If they were going to offer contracts to Lopez and Soroka then this saves money but if they weren't going to anyway then it didn't really save anything as Shewmake and Shuster are min guys.

Yeah, they gave up a lot of names, but none of them really had a long term future in Atlanta. Lopez was the only guy who would have contributed in 2024, but his contribution should be easily replaceable. Schuster doesn't have good enough stuff to stick in the rotation and Shewmake is overmatched at the plate. Soroka was out of options and about to get released.

The guy they got from Chicago has incredible stuff and is almost unhittable, but his control isn't great. They saw the importance of big bullpen arms in the playoffs, and this is a guy who they're hoping can come in and pump gas in the late innings. He's basically a lottery ticket. Huge upside, very little downside to this trade.

Nick Anderson traded to the Royals for cash. Guess they didn't like some underlying numbers because he wasn't going to cost much. There also wasn't many bullpen spots left. Another 40 man roster spot opens up.

Kyle Wright traded to the Royals for Jackson Kowar. This one is a bit confusing. Wright wasn't going to pitch next year but was also still not expensive and was controlled beyond.

Braves swing a trade with the Mariners for Kelenic, Gonzalez, and White. Looks like a salary dump for the Mariners and maybe Kelenic can live up to his potential with the Braves. Gonzalez is back end starter material at most, but the Braves might have a spot there if Lopez doesn't work out as a starter. White hasn't played in the majors for awhile, maybe ok if healthy.

Gonzalez and White both traded now. Gonzalez to Pitt for PTNBL. White along with a minor league rule 5 draft pick for Fletcher and Stassi from the Angels. Stassi could be moved again.

Braves add Chris Sale in exchange for Grissom. Sale still shows flashes when healthy, but hasn't showed he can stay healthy for long.

Anyone ever gone to Braves Spring Training? Especially in the last few years since they moved to the new park.

Our family doesn't have Spring Break plans yet...putting this on the list of possibilities.

Can't win em all if you don't win the first one!

Big day for Olson. Arcia and Harris also with 3 hit days. Strider was great except for one pitch. The Zach Wheeler mystery continues, but the boys wrecked once he hit the showers. Hopefully Sean Murphy is okay.

Offense with another big game. Fried got knocked out early but Chavez pitched three great innings. Tromp up to replaced Murphy but it sounds like he only has a grade 1 strain.

Pretty rough outing for Max…plus one really bad call by the ump led to an early shower. This offense is fun to watch though!

Hopefully Max just needed to get that out of his system.

Well, that was wild. I thought for sure it was over when Fried gave up 6 in the 1st. But this lineup just just keeps coming at you.

On the downside, Fried got hammered again in the first inning and Strider could be headed to TJ surgery. It'll be interesting to see how Anthopolous handles this. Trevor Bauer time?

Rough news on Strider. AA has done a great job building a team that can withstand a loss like this but losing the #2 WAR pitcher in baseball always hurts.

I know Fried had the call against him vs the Phillies that could have changed things but was there anything that caused such a bad first inning again tonight?

Not a good start to a contract year for him. Hope he doesn't pull an Andruw Jones.
