Perusing the stats

3 infielders have played every game this season. That in itself is an accomplishment.

Acuna leads the team in runs (97), hits (141), doubles (27)

Albies have 4 triples. Harris and Olson have 2. Acuna and Riley have 1.

HRs:
Olson 37

Riley 25
Albies 24
Ozuna 22
Murphy 17
Rosario 16
Arcia 11
Harris 11
d'Arnaud 9

We have an offensive juggernaut for a team. And the defense is incredibly talented too. On paper we should easily make the WS. Our pitching is the weakness.

This team is unreal at times.

Sooooo close. Ozzie did it.

Not a great start from Elder, giving up 5 in the first frame. Fortunately we still got plenty of outs to get it back.

Pretty sloppy performance so far today. Olson error in the first opened the door for the big inning. And then Eddie with a bad base running mistake that cost a run in the 4th.

Just missing out on way too many opportunities, and the Cubbies have taken advantage of most of theirs today. It happens.

Still not out of it…

Harris is up again with a chance to do some damage. Hopefully he gets it done this time.

If you think about it, what a weird turn in that game.

A struggling reliever shut us down over two innings in 6 up 6 down fashion.

Then in the 9th, we light up one of the best relievers in the game for 3 runs.

But that is how baseball goes...

Meanwhile...8,6,7,6. That is the amount of runs we have given up over the past four games since shutting out the Cubbies. Our bats kept us in every single game, but we were only able to scratch out one win. Really felt like watching the 2013 Aggie Football team...

Is it too much to ask for one starting pitcher to do his job? Bryce Elder is struggling again. Really need to give the bullpen a break today.

Two games in a row that we jump out to a 4-0 lead only to give most of it back.

Still holding on to a 4-3 advantage, but man it would be nice to break this game open and give the pen some rest.

Couldn't come back this time. Not sure why Elder was sent back out in the 6th. While it doesn't feel great it's still a road split.

At this point, why not send him back out? Relievers have been just as bad as starters during the last 15ish games.

ETA - just looked back at the last 13 games (Brewers, Angels, Cubs, and Pirates).

We have scored 90 runs (6.92 per game) and given up 65 runs (5 per game). Our offense is keeping this team afloat.

This is starting to get a little worrisome. We averaged 5.8 runs per game over the last six games and only won two games because we gave up 6.5 runs per game. Just an all around pathetic performance on the mound.

Really feels like Elder reached his peak and is just not going to be able to replicate his first half performance. I trust that Fried will get it back on track once he has a couple of more starts under his belt. Hopefully, Kyle Wright can come back and contribute, but that is hit or miss. Feels like for the post season were are going to live and die at the hands of Strider and Morton.

On a positive note, it looks like Lee might be returning this weekend for the Mets series.

Olson got rung up to end the game on an obvious ball 4. Stupid ump.

The rotation needs to get it together. The bullpen actually threw more innings than the starters this series (17-1/3 vs 16-2/3). Yet the starters gave up 21 runs versus 4 from the pen. That's an 11.34 ERA versus a 2.08. Absolute garbage.

I have zero expectations for Elder going forward. Really don't want to see him pitching in the postseason

It would have been nice if he hadn't walked SEVEN batters in four innings, getting his pitch count up to 87. Going to have to go to the bullpen early again it looks like.
