Whatever we do in this thread going forward, let's keep it 100% positive. RIP Stars, RIP Spurs, and pretty much stick a fork in the 'Stros! My sports teams are wiped out until football season. This is the Cowboys year!!! I believe!!!!!
I agree!

its not far fetched at all.

like i said earlier in the thread I believe, what frustrates me the most about this offseason is that I truly feel like they are literally 2 defenders (and a relatively healthy Romo) away from being a serious NFC contender.

I'm just not sold on the pass rush, and I'm not sold on the reliability of LB play.

I wish we'd make a run at Dwight Freeney. The dude had 8 sacks playing a partial season. Plus he'd be great for our young guys.

I'm not that worried about the D-line until they give me something to worry about. Outside of the 4 game suspensions I think they are fine. Seattle is a team that comes to mind about how to pressure a QB w/out a big name pass rusher. I think we have the talent on the D-line to be disruptive.

But I'll agree about our LB'ers. Pretty scary deal considering our top 2 have had issues staying on the field.

Dallas doesn't have anyone as good as Bennett on their d libe

The Cowboys don't have anything on their defense better than Seattle.

Or Cliff Avril... And their DBs are all-world and allow the dline a little more time.

Leary absent from OTA's demanding a trade. Would be nice if we could get something for him.

The guy is a starter on pretty much every team other than Dallas... plus he has a knee issue which probably means the guy won't play into his 30's like most o-lineman. Can't fault the guy for wanting to make his mark now and get that larger 2nd contract.

I figured Collins or Martin will make the move to RT, depending on the play of Free, & Leary will be back starting.
But I guess 1 year is like dog years in the NFL.

No, based on last year the Cowboys don't have Seattle's line. But I still feel they will be a strength this year. Our DT are gonna be very solid IMO. Crawford can be as disruptive as anybody and he's finally healthy again, Thornton I really like, and I'm really high on our rookie from Nebraska (Collins).

Not sure our rookie DE helps us much this year... I think he can develop into a good pass rusher, but getting a couple sacks from him this year is probably the ceiling. But I'm a fan of D-Lawrence and everybody says Gregory was incredible last year until the high ankle. Throw in the other guys, including the new guy Mayowa, and we will win some battles with a healthy rotation of fresh legs.

So there is a lot to like in that group and I'm a fan of how Dallas addressed it this offseason. They unfortunately got unlucky in the draft when their 2 DE targets left the board right in front of them in round 2... that would have been nice instead of drafting the red-shirt guy. But still, they got quality free agents at a good price and also drafted at least 1 guy that will make us better this year.

why did the Cowboys (Stephen Jones in particular) go public at draft time with "we are shopping Leary".?

i can understand if an insider got the information and reported it, but this was an out and out announcement of sorts that they were looking to trade him.

part of his position is probably now a sense of pride and not wanting to be on a team that made it clear its looking to move him. (not saying thats the entire reason, but I think its a small part at least and it wasn't a good PR move).

if they are gona trade him, i hope to God its for either a pass rusher (a good one is highly unlikely) or a reliable LB. they need a guy who has shown a history of being a solid LB for 16 games.

It's a good idea... nobody is gonna part with a good/decent pass rushing DE for a starting guard. But it is very possible that we could get a starting quality LB for Leary. Not sure which teams have O-line issues, but they are out there. A LB would be wonderful!

This article suggests the Titans as a possible trade destination.

Chatter that Morris is absolutely impressing, and a much better scheme fit than DMc... Zeke still the star, but Morris muscling in on more of a role... 1-2 punch?

RB will be interesting because Zeke is the starter and neither Morris or Dmac play special teams. I wonder if they will let McFadden try returning kickoffs now that we can afford him to do it? Seems to me if he isn't the clear #2 back or better tandem / complimentary back to Zeke, he has to play special teams of we keep him.

Love hearing how great Zeke looks. They say you see him touch the ball once and its no question who the best back is. Also funny how fast McFadden can fall down the depth chart. Proves the fact that we definitely needed an upgrade if he is so easily overthrown.

What's impressing me more is how they're raving of how Morris is perfect in this scheme... if Morris returns to ~3 years ago type production in regards to YPA, we could have the deadliest backfield in the league... Morris was beastly that year in Washington.

Agreed. The guy was beastly after contact. I sorta assumed Washington used him all up when he came here. But if he can return to form then we will punish people on the ground.

We could be very hard to stop considering defenses are built with the pass in mind first.

Reading Chaz Green is fully back from his hip surgery and will be able to be the swing guard and tackle... Hopefully they can find someone to throw us a pick for Leary.

I was hoping he would be a player for us. Remember not that long ago when every oline guy we drafted turned into a major dud.

if there is no way to keep Leary i really really hope they get an LB back for him rather than some conditional draft pick or something.

I read somewhere that Miami's guards both ranked in the 70's (out of 64 starters, ouch), we should get on the phone. Put him with Tunsil to help RT.

Hearing that Rolando was a no show at OTAs dealing with family matters. Always something with that guy.

We should have taken Ragland with our 2nd pick! I don't care if he is only a 2 down player... He's that physical presence we are gonna need when Rolsndo derps his way off the field at some point this year.

Miami has been working Tunsil at LG. Jelani Jenkins, Kiko Alonso, Koa Misi are their starters. Jenkins is a young 2nd round pick... Kiko is fragile... Koa just got arrested...

Listening to Talking Cowboys from last week... They were saying Damien Wilson is looking good early. And good thing because the team was counting on him being a big contributor this year. Hopefully he shows up for us this year!

Wilson better show up now if this team isn't going to add anymore LBs.

I think since this thread has started I've posted like 20 times about this team needing LBs. Addressing LB , signing LB, drafting LBs, and lack of reliability at LB potentially costing this team contender status. A guy like McLain you should treat as a bonus if he's around not rely on. He's never going to be that guy. Since they seem hell bent on keeping him they need to have other plans in place.

McFadden is rumored to be on the trading block as well. If they are going to move him OR Leary we have way more of a need at LB then we do for a non premium or conditional draft pick.

Maleik Collins out 10-12 weeks with a broken foot.

He will miss all of training camp.
