It used to be the standard to draft a qb, then hed sit abd learn for at least a year if not two.
Its only recently they started playing earlier, and it hardly ever goes well for the team or the player.

Drafting a qb or not, If Romo goes down the season is screwed. I wouldnt mind Cook, Coker in rounds 2-5 and letting them sit and learn from one of the best qbs in the league. There would be no pressure to start and both of those guys won in college.

Randy Gregory was a steal in the 2nd but he's a project until he puts on weight. He's quality depth until then. Most of us understood that.

Cleveland probably takes Goff so do the Cowboys take the Memphis QB or trade down or trade up to get Goff? Or just take the best available.
I think there is very little chance Dallas uses a 1st round pick on a QB.

I'm telling you guys, 2015 is going to be chalked up to bad luck and injuries. The Jones family will convince themselves they are a player or 2 away from contending again in addition to a good draft and that will lead to either a defender or WR/RB being taken in the first round.
Yeah, but just think about how much fun it will be when we think we are going to the Super Bowl listening to training camp hype about how nobody will be able to cover Dez and this new rookie WR!!!!

Like, like... remember when Randy Gregory was the steal of the draft... and then he totally went out and got like like, ZERO sacks this year... totally!!!!!!

To be fair, Gregory never got healthy after that badly sprained ankle. He probably should've been shut down earlier in the year.

Way too early 2016 Cowboys draft that I'd be really excited if it came together:

1st Rd Pick: A'Shaun Robinson-DT
2nd Rd Pick: Kendall Fuller-CB / Tre'Davius White-CB
3rd Rd Pick: Alex Collins-RB / Jonathan Williams-RB
4th Rd Pick: Jacob Coker-QB
4th Rd Pick (Compensatory): Eric Striker-OLB / Devonte Fields-DE / Hassan Ridgeway-DT

Other QBs projected to go after round 4:
Kevin Hogan - Stanford
Cody Kessler - USC
Brandon Allen - Arkansas

I'd be happy with any of those guys. Especially wouldn't mind seeing Kevin Hogan or Brandon Allen develop a year or 2.

I like Hogan too, particularly because of the offense he ran at Stanford. Wouldn't mind seeing him in the 4th round.

Those guys would need multiple years on the bench for development. They're also low enough in the draft where they can be let go without any feelings of guilt. Still, it's a dangerous game waiting that long for quarterback. Historically, it's been a foolhardy one.

I agree; I just think JJ feels he can squeeze another year or 2 out of Romo and will draft with that in mind- getting instant impact guys to help towards a SB run. I don't think they'll go QB in RD1.

Sean Payton to the Cowboys?
A friend in N.O. said he just saw Jerruh get out of a limo in downtown.

Gregory actually DID show things in preseason games. It wasn't just things we were hearing.

When he got that high ankle sprain, much like Dez outa desperation they rushed him back and he was never the same for the year.

Let him rest, get that ankle straight, and put on some weight and then we'll see what happens.

Payton & his family live in Dallas already.

the Payton stuff is getting some minor play in other places too.

a couple of things though...

-Payton still lives in D so why would the Cowboys go see him in NOLA?

-He's still the coach in New Orleans and I don't see Dallas parting with compensation to get him.

Jerry has a hardon for Garrett, and in spite of being clear that he is frustrated and thought the staff underperformed, Garrett will get a one year reprieve. Jerry seemed pretty clear after the last game that Garrett is safe but position coaches are not.

I actually wish MORE owners would do this. Teams have bad years.

Garrett has been more bad-mediocre than good.

They are perfect for each other, a .500 coach and a .500 owner.

Doesn't change things. Thank God the Cowboys didn't run off Landry those first six years.

Dont get me wrong Landry was a great coach.

But lets be honest. He got great help from Schramm and Brandt with personnel.

Also what was his record without Staubach? I dont know but id guess not nearly as good as people think. Id guess around 500 actually. Maybe a bit above?

This actually helps make my point. You can have the greatest philosophy in the world, but without guys to run it, it's pointless. Dallas had its personnel in 2014 and went 12-4. In 2015, Dallas was devastated by injury to 3 of its five most dynamic offensive players (Romo, Dez, Dunbar) and went 4-12.

I'm not going to look it up but that's probably close to right as an aggregate. The Cowboys did make the playoffs for 18 out of 20 years during one stretch, so they weren't garbage. However, the very beginning and end of Landry's era was bad. He started 0-11 and ended after securing the number one pick (that became Aikman).

Quick count... Landry was 78-58 Post Staubach...

  • 270-178-6 (overall record)

Landry was far better than just a great coach. He invented a new defense and offense. Was coordinator and play caller for the offense and defense. Forced Staubach to retire because he wouldn't let him audible and went on to 3 straight NFC Championship games.

Charlie Waters and Cliff Harris said that if Landry had just stuck to the defense and not split his time with the offense and special teams the 70's Steelers would've gone down in history like the 90's Bills.

I don't have an educated reason or film study to back this up, but Brandon Allen has always struck me as a guy that will have a better Pro career than he did in college.

The last time I had that gut feeling the player was Russell Wilson. Odds are it was just lucky intuition with Wilson, but you won't hear me complaining if the Cowboys pick up Allen in the 4th.

Here's your off-season guide cowboys fans:

WHAT TO EXPECT IN 2016
1. Excitement, Romo is back, win a few games
2. Embarrassingly lose a game or two, sky is falling
3. Amazing 4th qtr win, more excitement
4. Romo hurt, insert random qb
5. Shamefully lose most of the remaining games
6. Miss playoffs
7. Consult this off-season guide (be sure to tweak the title to account for proper year)

Nothing that happens this off-season will change the above. It's pointless to discuss really. Thank me later.

**note: only valid as long as Romo is considered starter

Wouldn't mind Treadwell, but this team is in dire need of a playmaker on the defensive side of the ball. I like the idea of drafting Ramsey. Kid makes plays and would give us a young, versatile duo in the secondary to go along with Scandrick. Plus Claiborne is likely not going to be resigned and Carr is just
Meh.

The only way Morris comes back is on a cheap deal. That only happens if there isn't a market for him (a la Rolando in 2015).

Everybody was wrong about Claiborne. Best defender in the draft was the consensus. The guy is simply average. No idea how/where he lost that edge that made him special.
RedlineAg08
How long do you want to ignore this user?
He's a cover corner in the wrong system. And he's been hurt constantly at a position that takes time to adjust to at the pro level. The injury issue is just tough luck, but worse is that the cowboys gave so much to go get him and them changed their system to a system that doesnt fot smaller cover corners.

Treadwell is tempting but they so badly need another playmaker on D. It's gona be a tough call.

Cowboys are going to get a good look at Carson Wentz in the Senior Bowl. He's gaining lots of buzz. I'm reading that there are those that would not be shocked at all if he is top half of the 1st round.
RedlineAg08
How long do you want to ignore this user?
without a doubt by draft time they'll hype him up to be a top 10 player and some poor team will jump on him. Pray it aint the cowboys.

Wentz looks better than Lynch or Cook to me but it shouldn't matter...Jerry's not taking a QB.
