Those of you who have way more experience than I... vertical, angled or hand stop? I think im leaning angled

Tell me about twist...556 in 1x7 or 1x8
quote:I think the chart is useful for showing what twist CAN do but a lot of people blindly follow it. I have a 1:7 that seems to love 55 FMJ and 60 Vmax and hasn't shot the heavier stuff near as well.
Keep in mind that it's going to be very difficult to load anything above 77 gr to magazine length. I think even the 75 gr Hornady amax won't fit in a magazine when properly loaded.
So like Charlie Brown said, it doesn't matter. That chart is more useful (at the high end) for bolt-action or single shot rifles.

In Mumbai on vacation, do i get points for reading this entire thread in the land of the slow internet connection?
Not a hunter, this is purely for home defense/SHTF scenarios.
And because i grew up in a country with no 2nd amendment.
Thanks for all the info.
Noob with guns, have a .38 revolver and the wife has a 9mm
Will be buying an AR next month, as soon as i am back in the country,
Budget around $1000
On my AR-15:
I would like a foregrip
Purely aesthetic- i like the Picattinny rails - how much will that will push up the cost?
I'm thinking 18'' barrel
don't think i need a scope to begin with.
What options do i have on the front sight?
EyeGuy, do i get a texags discount if I visit your store in Houston? :-)

Bender,
I am currently building a 6.8 and now I want to complicate life and build an A2 type like the one you have pictured. Where did you get the upper with the fixed carry handle?
Thanks

I've probably built/own more ARs than anyone on here.
I just think a hand gun or shotgun would be easier to use inside a home
