Sweet!

Newbie question:

What is SPR?

You're about to fall down a really fun rabbit hole.

SPRs, Mk12s, Mk18s, Recce, Mini Recce, Mod-H......

Seriously, the real SPR rabbit hole is a little too deep (money wise) for my pockets. Between parts from KAC, PRI, NightForce, and OPS Inc alone, I'd be at double the cost of my entire build. Haha

If you'd like some gun porn for the rabbit hole give a follow on Instagram, you won't regret it.

Just got a shipping notification: my 14.5" barrel I sent off to get pinned/welded will be back in my hands on Wednesday. Time to get off my butt and build the lower before it gets here.

Anyone have any recs for a complete heavy barrel (HBAR) upper? I'm moving to Maryland soon (I know, terrible), and want to bring my AR with me, so it needs to be HBAR to be state compliant (from what I understand). Rather than change out the barrel on my current upper I'd rather buy a complete HBAR upper. Plus I feel like now is as good a time as any to try out a different caliber, I've looked at 300 AAC so far, my current upper is 5.56.

Complete HBAR uppers seem few and far between, I've checked out PSA but this is the only one I found that I'm interested in (5.56 HBAR upper), but I'd rather not pay $400 since I just shelled out about $1000 for my current build. Right now I'm leaning towards a 300 AAC blem upper from MAS defense, which would only put me back $225. Any recommendations would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Sort of fits here, just got an email from Ruger that the RPR is going to be offered in 5.56/.223 now

What an...odd choice of caliber for the RPR.

Now if they would do a bullpup bolt action in 5.56 ala DSR-1 it might get interesting.

So why does a heavy barrel make it compliant? Is there any reasoning written behind the regs?
CharlieBrown17

Yeah I would've expected a move the other direction into something like 300WM before 5.56

loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool

It's a gun control law.

There is no reason whatsoever behind it, just feelings and freedom hating politicians.

I'm not sure if you've reviewed MD's AWB, but it's a bit more complex than you'd think.

It's a Geissele SSA-E.

That one I picked up at Cola Warrior Texas last year, thus the engraving.

It's in DFW right now, flew in last night before the storms. Weather messed them up a little last night, I guess.

No big deal, I can finish tomorrow or friday instead.

But I was looking forward to having this done by today.

Extremely inaccurate. It's a gimmick.

You'd generally be better served with a binary trigger - fires once on the pull and then again on the release. Easier to control and, in my experience, much more accurate and more useful.

Standing, sure.

There's an interesting thread on Arf with some guys (including some who were SAW gunners in the Marines) messing around with them. Proned out with bipods they're making decent hits on man sized targets at 200-300 yards without issue.

I think they make a good poor mans SAW, but you have to use it with a bipod for it to be worth much.

The D60s make the whole concept a lot more viable and interesting too.

Not to mention, who doesn't love 1400 RPM?

I think thats where i got this bug... stupid arfcom.

And justin, ive never had nor seen any experience with the binary trigger... but at a 99 dollar price point for some bump fire systems for psuedo full tilt and making bunches of noise, is the binary trigger really worth that much more?

Any new products coming anybody knows about that look fun?

I've got the Franklins in store, and they've been popular. If aggie_3 sees this, a little of what's in store for Connor's bachelor party... if I don't have a full auto lower put together by then, I'll be dropping one of the franklins into my SBR. I know they are more expensive but they seem to be pretty cool and everyone that I know of that's gotten one so far has loved it.

One never really 'finishes' a build... at best they pause to continue a build on another lower.

For the lower, trying to build this exact lower.

The upper, I'm still reading about but I may try to do something similar to the upper on the bottom of the picture
