I think the chain of command post-Endgame is pretty wonky. "An Avenger is in trouble, let's call Captain Am-... wait. Tony Sta-... wait. Black Widow? Nope..." Hawkeye is retired somewhere off the grid. Banner would make sense but it may not be his field per se. I guess they had a bunch of specialists so he's be worth a call.

Fury makes sense but he's also 5 years behind on everything and may already be back in space. (We'll see what he and the Skrulls are up to eventually.). I guess SWORD and the guy that's been in charge for a few years is the best bet.

My theory is still supernatural villain of some type. This is Wanda's doing but under someone else's suggestion IMO.

Additionally, we don't know how long SWORD has been operating. From the beginning, it seems they already existed at the time of the Snap. So it might be they haven't contacted Fury because they're either over-confident in their own abilities or bureaucratic enough to follow their own chain of command.

After the first two episodes I was very close to giving up on the show. I figured they were stuck in tv episodes, but it didn't really seem like there was much connection between everything. Third episode was ok and kept me interested for a fourth. Fourth episode was amazing. So glad I didn't give up. The show gives me a huge "Lost" vibe. I'm also glad that I can't binge watch it. I love reading theories each week.

I'm pretty sure that, since we know the next Dr. Strange film is supposed to follow this show, then I think they bring in Strange at the end.

Disney has already shown they will make that leap from show to greater universe.

I really like they pulled Woo and Darcy very randomly into this. Never expected to really see either of them again.

One of the only things that I think the MCU had a little trouble with was explaining away why other heroes went always available to help. For the first couple movies sure, but once you know there are a dozen superheroes around it's hard to have just one face some big event alone. Like the others wouldn't notice some terrible **** going down on earth?

Clearly they pulled it off, but here it will be a stretch if we don't see someone show up shortly. It is only a couple weeks after endgame so the world is probably still a cluster, and I'm sure most of the remaining avengers are trying to take a day off.

You have to keep the threats small and isolated.

This is a town of 3,000 people. Not New York being blown up.

Marvel has done a pretty good job having reasons why other avengers weren't involved.

Cap 2 - Cap didn't know who to trust.
Thor 2 - Thor was only on Earth for a bit
Ant Man 1 and 2 - localized threats
Dr Strange - a lot of the fighting took place in other dimensions (only Strange could affect that)
Spider-Man Homecoming - localized threat
Black Panther - country specific coup attempt

Iron Man 3 and Spider-Man FFH are the only ones that I had issues with the main character flying solo.

The initial problem (missing person) was certainly not an Avenger level issue. Now that Wanda is involved, it makes sense that the Feds are there

But we don't even know what the relationship between the Avengers and the government is at this point. In Endgame, were they acting outside of the purview of the USA or even global community?

Agent Woo using a simple magic trick to flash his card was a fantastic callback to him trying to get ant man to teach him slight of hand in Ant Man 2. Loved that attention to detail.

You're right, and they have done a good job. But captain marvel's goddaughter was just kidnapped by Wanda for a bit.

For narrative sake you need to keep the really OP heroes out of the way, but we'll need at least some throwaway lines soon for why no one is available to help the bumbling agency folk.

That's kinda how comics are and you just have to somewhat accept it. Otherwise, every comic is just the Avengers, X-Men or Justice League.

I think we get Benedict Cumberpatch. Watch that video where they interviewed the cast that I posted at the beginning. Several Avengers show up but he stays hidden while asking a question for a bit. And with it tying into Multiverse of Madness I think he had the best odds

Did anyone notice that when Rambeau looks at the energy field for the first time, it looks like she's looking at an old TV screen?

I'm gonna check out of this thread for a bit in case those sneak peeks are discussed. I want to go in blind.

Re: where Wanda's powers came from. Thus far in the MCU it's been via experimentation by the mind stone. In the comics, she's a mutant. They didn't have that option available in 2015 but they do now.

There was some semi-official art book or something like that in the last couple of years that included something interesting. In the Wanda bio it mentioned "was she given powers by the mind stone, or did it merely unlock something deep within?"

So right now the answer is Mind Stone, but they could retcon her into being a mutant eventually.

It's been suggested that maybe she can tap into the power of all the stones. Which would make her a more dangerous bad guy.

Now the stones are supposed to be gone in this universe, but the word infinity kind of indicates that you can't really get rid of them. Maybe she was able to really reconstruct the mind stone from its scattered atoms.

One thought I can't shake from the last episode is that it's not all just a mind trick. The actual physically reality can be affected by the bubble. The cable from the guy in the sewer is altered. Rambeau's clothes are different when she gets jettisoned out. If Wanda can affect changes on a small scale, what else can she do? (If it really is all Wanda)
Aggie_Journalist

If the friends and family of everyone in the bubble can't remember them, is it possible that Wanda and vision's friends and family can't remember them, either?

Hence, Fury and the Avengers would be all "Who's Wanda? I don't see a town there. You guys are pulling my leg."

Darcy and Woo weren't really close to them, so that's why they're unaffected.

Not sure they'll go that way, but it would make sense. I can see Dr. Strange getting involved when he realizes he's the only one who can remember / engage with Wanda, because magic.
Thanks and gig'em

I'm thinking they may actually go back to her roots now that mutants are available to the MCU. For reference:

Quote:

Wanda is possibly the most powerful mutant in the MCU. Wanda possesses the incredible power of Chaos Magic. Wanda's power can warp reality and existence and bring total destruction to the cosmos. According to S.H.I E.L.D, Wanda's Comparative Mutagenic Power is 9.3. Wanda is also a class 5 mutant, as stated by Iron Man and an Omega level mutant.
She's a witch with extreme magical powers that had nothing to do with the infinity stones. And she doesn't necessarily have full control over it. They may be using Vision's death in the MCU to trigger an escalation of her innate powers. IOW, the stress and anguish have sent over the edge. She may have not just been able to fully tap into them before now.

Anyone have a quick recap on timeline here? We got a little lost last night on that.

So, the doctor told Monica she had been gone 3 years and that Monica's mom died 2 years prior. So, that puts the blip 3 years after the snap. And then somewhere along the way Monica's mom started SWORD. Did that happen post snap or before?

And Endgame funeral was only weeks prior to the blip?

The doctor told Monica her mom had been gone 3 years which was 2 years after she disappeared.

It was a 5 year blip as established in Endgame.

I don't think Sword was mentioned before this so it's sometime after the Captain Marvel film in the 90s but well before the blip. It was mentioned Monica grew up in Sword. I'm guessing it's been around for 20 years.

Don't have much to add, but thought it was interesting to find out that while we only got to see 3 episodes (so far), it seems that they are literally playing non-stop.

When Darcy said get an old TV "like not flat", why (from where?) did they get 1950s/60s TVs and not just some from 2005?

Also liked Rambeau's answer to "Who are you???" in the blip scene. She says "I don't...". I think her next word is "remember" not "know". Even the subtitles don't have the next word.

5 years between snap and blip. In Endgame they literally put the words "5 years later" on the screen. The doctor told Monica her mom died three years ago, two years after Monica disappeared. 5 years total. The Endgame funeral happened after the blip brought everyone back. The people at the funeral made the blip happen and was the plot of the whole movie.

I'd say the chances it's just Wanda are like 0%.

My current theory is that an as-yet-unknown villain came in to "help" Wanda (huge odds it's the neighbor lady) though to what end I'm not sure.

But with their help Wanda realized she could recreate Vision and a life she dreamed of and she's more powerful than the other person expected and now they're basically trapped there under Wanda's control.

The way explained this to a friend is like a snowglobe. She didn't build it, but she's now controlling everything inside of it.

But the main reason someone else has to be involved to me is that 1) obviously, it seems extremely unlikely they'd make Wanda the "villain" and then 2) the edge of the field, the fact that it's a hexagon, the way it looks and acts, none of that looks like Wanda's powers that we've seen.

I get that. And at this point it's easier to explain than in FFH (where I guess everyone just has to understand it's because of Disney/Sony reasons)

But it got me thinking, where is everyone at this point?

Tony is dead.
Cap is really old.
Thor and the Guardians are off world.
Captain Marvel is off world?
Hulk?
Falcon and Winter Soldier we'll presumably find out about soon.
Black Panther I guess went home (and of course for very sad reasons that plot line is really unknown)
Hawkeye back on the farm?
Dr Strange is expected to be involved in this.
Ant Man and Wasp just chilling in Cali? Seems like Woo might call them?

Thanks smartass. I've seen the movie once when it came out. I don't remember all the details.
