I had never taken the time to understand why the bevel was so hated. Now I am firmly in the non-bevel camp. But I do really love our ATM in the state of Texas (non-beveled, of course)

I still think the bevel looks cheap and cheesy. No doubt future generations will get rid of it and ridicule the current generation for ever using it.

It's a perception trick and has never been a bevel. It depicts a frustum shaped depression. Like a landfill.

I have always assumed the bevel was a way of depicting a block T as shown in one of the last pictures posted by the OP. It always seemed they were leaving out part of it that would have made it clearer as to the intent therefor many people don't like it. Maybe if they would add the shading to make it look more like a block T people would be more accepting. As for me I just look at the overall shape and know it is a representation of this school as most people do.

Just wanted to bring this to everyone's attention. Apparently now Adidas is going back and beveling old A&M logos too. Its not really "vintage" when its not the same logo...

Bevel looks like a manufacturing mistake in many instances.
