Quick question. I have been skimming through this as there is a ton of great information. Thanks for the thread Bender. I just wanted to make sure I am correct on one thing though. I can legally buy an AR pistol without needing any "stamps" or "trust" correct? It just has to be originally registered as a pistol and not a rifle. Just wanted to make sure I am clear on that. TIA!!

Yes, with a slight caveat. There is no "registration" in Texas, so you don't have to register anything.

When you buy a pistol lower or a complete AR pistol, it will be transferred from the FFL to you. If you're buying the lower and upper separately and already have an AR rifle, buy the pistol lower first as a CYA move. Don't want a sub 16" upper around the house with nothing you could put it on but a rifle lower. That sort of caution is likely unnecessary, but it's how most of us would do things just so it doesn't look like you had any intent to mount the sub 16" upper on a rifle lower without a stamp.

Laws are stupid.

What Bender said. Perfectly on point.

By the way, loving having stock folders. I found one out of China that is just like the Law Tactical for $45 shipped instead of $200+ for the Law Tac.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think ALG is a little deceiving in their advertising, As I recall the weights they list are a little on the light side. Yes they are lighter than most other rail systems, but as I recall the listed weight was not including the ALG barrel nut (at least not on the V-1 MLok I put on Dubi's) .

So ALG is a very lightweight rail at a great pricepoint, but it also includes a QD sling socket or two.

I would use their stuff again for sure.

Also free shipping if you order from ALG directly, sometimes they run a 20%off sale too.

Well, you're wrong about them being deceiving, but I was also wrong about the weight.

The 9.3 I listed for the V2 I have does not include the barrel nut. If you look at ALGs website, like Faxon they list mounting hardware as a separate weight below. I missed that detail the first time around and I apologize to the other poster for missing it. I guess that's just the industry standard as both ALG and Faxon are doing it.

The rail itself was exactly 9.3, as promised on the website. The barrel nut was only 2.1 oz instead of the 2.42 listed on ALGs website, but when you add the screws used to attach the rail to the nut it gets it to 2.4 oz.

Specs? That's badass.
I went through and listed everything I can think of. This build took several months and is largely made from things I found on sale, already had, AR15.com classifieds, military discounts, etc. Websites are manufactures pages if available; the items can always be found cheaper elsewhere. Being patient and buying used can save thousands of dollar.

WOW - that's a list right there. How do you like the Trijicon MRO and the Silencerco Omega? I'm considering adding the Omega to my build and I'm trying to decide on an optic. Leaning between MRO and an Aimpoint.

I love everything about the Omega.

MRO is nice, but don't have that much time on it yet. The price is super attractive versus a T2.
I do prefer it over the Comp M4 though.

I think the Comp M4's look awesome, just not sure I want to drop that amount of coin on a red-dot. Especially if I'm not going to be beating the hell out of it in rough conditions. I think there are better choices for less cash. I definitely like the Omega though. I ordered a Sig 762TI-QD, but thinking about getting the Omega instead just due to size and good reviews I have heard about it.

that's what I'm thinking. For what I'm going to do, I think there are cheaper options than the M4 - although I'd love to have one. Looking at the MRO and potentially an EOTech.

that and I'd rather give my money to a US manufacturer.

Pretty sure people have mentioned it on this thread but the fact that everyone has a different FDE annoys the **** out of me.

I like your FDE BCG and having it match the other "accent" accessories but the slight differences in FDE annoy me to no end.

I'm glad yours has been working for you.

Things that are absolutely critical for the rifle to continue working properly like a bolt carrier group or in this case an assembly that works with the buffer tube don't strike me as places I'd like to risk Chinese knock off parts on.

I'd consider using one on an AR that was a range toy only just to see if I liked the concept before dropping the dough for the real deal, though.

YMMV.

Last year I paid the subscription fee for Team on ar15.com - like $25 or so. But they post lots of black Friday deals there and try to keep them private for a while. Saved me probably 300 on my rifle build.

Hadn't really thought about this before...are there usually a lot of dealer price sales during times like black friday? Or are they before so dealers can have big sales?
