The Republican establishment doing what it's good at.

Pretty astonishing the huge deal was blocking freedom caucus members from the rules committee! Very telling of what the establishment really is!

Also Crenshaw on CNN makes me never want to see McCarthy lead anything !

"But, if the GOP finally starts acting like conservatives, the base will get off their ass and reward them with a crap-ton of votes."

When a sitting president entering midterm elections has such dismal approval ratings, and has made a crap load of bad decisions (Afghanistan, oil & gas, etc.) the opposing party usually turns out in force and wipes the floor.

Well………, there was a real high turnout in general, and especially in the Republican Party. The GOP had dismal results. How does that mesh with you statement above? What went wrong?
If you think a bunch of GOP voters decided to vote for Biden candidates, then I have a bridge I'd like to sell you.

Alternative hypothesis, there are not as many people in Galts Glutch waiting for the Hero of Ages, Prince that Was Promised True Conservative Platform to finally come to the polls as you think there are.
The Freedom Caucus isn't pushing for pure libertarianism. They are merely pushing for common sense policies that reduce inflation, improve the economy, and whatnot. In short, to merely fix the crap that liberals broke.

While I realize that liberals are dumbasses, even they should comprehend that sky high inflation sucks and run of the mill conservatives certainly understand that.

If it was actually a "thankless" job, Kevin McCarthy would have no interest.

He is a career politician and as such, there is always something in it for him.

McCarthy went wrong!! That is a big issue too! That arrogant SOB promised 240+ House seats!! They're at 222. The worst polling POTUS ever and the GOP has the worst midterm # improvement since JFK. You don't think a lot of that blame lays at the feet of McCarthy, the Minority Leader?
From what I've seen, without McCarthy's involvement, the Dems would have gained seats in the House just like they did in the Senate. So what did the 20 oppositionists do to help elect Republicans - other than complain?
McCarthy's involvement stymied the Republicans from gaining more seats. Gaining 10 when you promised 28+ isn't a win or a "Thank God McCarthy was there" moment. It is an indictment of his ineffectiveness when you have the worst polling president in history and you had to claw to barely gain the majority. So McCarthy and Co. messaging was so bad that the Dems almost kept the house is what you just posted.

Two things happened that hurt the Republicans ability to gain more seats 1. The roe v wade decision energized the dem voters in ways that would not normally happen in off years, and 2. Trump and his followers (and in a lot of cases with help from the dems in the primary) pushed a bunch of election denying far right morons in purple districts that previously had no problem electing republicans. WA-3, MI-3 are perfect examples of this that come to mind from previous discussions but there are more.

McCarthy should have done more to stop those people from getting nominated knowing they had no shot at winning in that kind of a district, but functionally I'm not sure how that would be possible and it would have obviously hurt him with the far right wing anyways.

Sorry, but you're projecting a Republican failure that was across the board and with many causes wholly on McCarthy because you have an axe to grind - one that you have been doing so for the past 35+ pages on this thread.

We get it. You don't like McCarthy. But don't expect to project all Republican failures in the last election directly on McCarthy and expect to be taken seriously. Make a cogent argument, or don't make one at all.

I've made plenty of observations as to why I'm no fan of McCarthy's besides the fact of the poor performance of the House gains. So before you throw out BS accusations as to that is the only reason, why don't you grab the full story of what I have posted.

One being that Trump wants him in power and I'm tired of Trump's crap and he is an albatross on the neck of the GOP now

Perhaps it does, but when it comes to voters making choices, how many knuckleheads, err………. educated voters, out there know who he is?

It was just a bad showing for a lot of reasons and I really worry about the GOP. The progressive side of the Dem's is growing in influence, and it really pisses me off to see the GOP pissing on each other when the Dem's are united.

I hope it all works out, but it just makes me wonder.
It's not a question of knowing who he is and more to do with his, McConnell's, Ryan's and the RNC's influence on the candidates. Who they choose to support, both verbally and financially, and went silent on. The squishies on here love to "muy Trump" while completely ignoring the greater influence those had on the purse strings and endorsements to support any Republican candidate, regardless of how bad they were, against the evil that is being thrust upon us.

You sure? McConnell helped dems in some senate races. That's why they gained seats, at least in part.

What was McConnell's message? What was his vision? What was he telling Americans he would do for the country if republicans took back the Senate? What was McCarthy's message?

They did nothing to win seats. They're the establishment. All they want is their seats at the trough. Nothing more.
Well said but I fixed one thing.

Yeah, Trump endorsed extremists, which is why the GOP barely won seats in the House...

And it happened in the Senate as well. Extremist candidates like Oz in Pennsylvania were too radical to be elected, and moderate types like Federman were always going to win.

He gets to have his name etched in the history books and grab the ultimate brass ring. It's obvious why he wants the job. But that doesn't make the job of herding a caucus with few meaningful sticks or carrots to actually dangle an easy one, especially given two meaningfully different governing theses within the caucus.
