but wasn't the time to take this stance when the caucus voted 180 to 30 (ish) to nominate McCarthy? Why not fight then and not allow the vote to happen in the first place..or battle hard enough to have someone else nominated?
Once McCarthy was nominated it was "over". I get standing on principle, especially for the first vote, but after that? These 15-20 have the power they wanted now. They can vote to remove McCarthy at anytime. It only takes 5 GOP members to go along with the 213 dems to remove McCarthy. That is something McCarthy negotiated with them.

No, its literally about hoping you realize how bad you missed the original sarcasm of the post, particularly when the immediate responders picked up on it.

You are derailing and trolling. Fine by me, but not sure that's what others want to read about it. And really could give two ****s about how silly you are making yourself look by petty trolling.

Hey, they should just have a vote every working day until 2024 but never pick someone. Then all can see what a waste most govt is.

By nominating RINOs to leadership positions.
Not disagreeing, but the tail (10%) is wagging the dog here.

The reality is that a non-RINO would never get enough support either.

Democrats will continue winning because they are the ones that "play the game".
It's not because they "play the game" or are "united" or any of that. It's because liberalism is an easy sell to preschool children.

Going along with that merely to win elections is a lose-lose. They will always be better at being Santa's than us, and when the SHTF we will have no record to stand by that shows we were correct. We need to fight with conservatism for a change and show that it really works.

This makes sense. What I can't figure out is what did the 19 demand that was so outrageous that McCarthy couldn't negotiate? What would be so unacceptable that Republicans haven't already conceded to democrats?

Awesome, these 20 holdouts will give the RINOs more time to strike a deal with Jeffries for the speakership.

Didn't he cover up sexual abuse at Ohio State? Why would we want him as speaker?

No he did not

Again, I am supporting Freedom Caucus decisions and I don't care if it takes all year. We complain all the time about rinos and establishment leaders. We finally have a group digging in against this and some of us are complaining. What are the costs? Some pointing and snickering by the enemy of the nation? Delaying the committee probe into laptop gate/wuhan? Nobody will go to jail, nobody ever does. This might be the smallest hill to stand on, but it will have been the only one and it is about freaking time.
I agree with all of that except the size of the hill. When Reagan was president, he was able to get ALL of the GOP to vote with him. Even the Rockefeller republicans. Congress is full of followers. They will follow whatever their leader dictates. Having a real conservative leader would be a big deal. It wouldn't be just for 2 years, it would be for a good while. And if someday we are able to get a similar conservative in the Senate and white house would be HUGE.

That's the point, what would McCarthy not concede to the 19 to stay on a speaker? After everything that's been given to Democrats what could the 19 possibly request that would be a deal breaker?

Anyone find it interesting that the majority of folks criticizing these "holdouts" are "never Trumpers," who would, if in the same situation, holdout from voting for DJT?

It's ok to be "anyone but Trump" but being "anyone but McCarthy" is petulant and stupid.

A bunch of innuendo and rather hefty allegations with about the same amount of concrete evidence as all of the election challenges.

They have had no power. Do you seriously think that the average 19 out of 435 could magically shrink the budget? Are you really that naive? The whole point is to give them POWER so they can do much more than what a mere 19/435 could as run of the mill represenatives.

The concept shouldn't be that difficult to understand.

If these 19 "budget hawks" had been in control in December, what do you believe the budget they passed would have been? $1 trillion? 1.2 trillion? What would they have cut? You are delusional if you think it would have been significantly lower than $1.4 trillion. Additionally, I can find no specifics regarding proposals from these saviors of the republic on cuts to social security and medicare/medicaid, which are the only cuts that matter. It takes no power to speak out. None.

If you are not proposing significant cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid then you cannot consider yourself any kind of budget hero. Nothing else matters, and this fight over the speaker is basically a heated argument about what color to paint a house that is literally falling down.

McCarthy isn't worthy of the Speaker position. He put in the worst gain of House seats of any midterm election since JFK. Biden, the worst polling POTUS ever, and McCarthy couldn't get a larger majority. The arrogant SOB 'promised' a 240+ GOP house and he fell woefully short.

He is not the leader for this party and the midterm results say so.

"Ironically, McCarthy may have only himself to blame. By quickly embracing Trump after initially criticizing him over the January 6, 2021, insurrection, he linked his party's midterm election campaign irrevocably to Trump's reputation. But many voters were alienated by the ex-president's election denialism and landed McCarthy with a much smaller and more unworkable House majority than he expected."
