Chip Roy just said of Fox that the anti-McCarthy voters were threatened with losing committee assignments this morning if they didn't vote for McCarthy.
This is why McCarthy won't win anytime soon. He better start making concessions to the conservative caucus.
He did make concessions and they moved the goalposts.

It was settled in a caucus vote, but these 19 refuse to accept the results of the vote.

Seems to be a new trend in the low-IQ faction of the party.
No one is obligated to vote for the person who wins the caucus vote. It's like some of you didn't take high school government class.
obviously they're not required to. But that's what playing for the team looks like.
Well this team sucks ass and needs a new captain. McCarthy ain't it
I hear you Irish. But the captain was chosen in the caucus vote. The winner is the winner and the loser just has to live with being the loser.

Until people start openly discussing politics with family, friends, co-workers, and the general public, the low information voters will keep voting for the same establishment politicians until they are hurting so bad it is near impossible to correct.

The people on this forum are likely more informed than 99% of the general voting public yet I would venture the vast majority here are too scared to talk politics with peers out of fear of losing a friend, family member, or their job, etc. But to continue down the same path by avoiding conversation means you are allowing the ignorant to choose politicians that are actively taking more from you than had you simply had those conversations yourself....

Put the effort in and you will not have to worry about how much damage McCarthy is going to cause or how little he is going to prevent.
I've seen a big shift in the crime victim's community. Last fall the Houston chapter of Parents of Murdered Children got smeared as a right wing hate group by Democrats. It's an interesting position to take against a non-partisan and largely african-American/hispanic support group.

He isn't the winner though. Your premise of the caucus vote is no different than members crossing lines for votes on bills.

McCarthy is a loser. He said himself in 2015 when we went through this **** with him, and I quote, "I am not the that guy". He is not that guy and cannot unify the Republican house members. The freedom caucus is stubborn and heels dug in, that's why I love them. They will do McCarthy no favors if he is elected Speaker and I could see them torpedoing anything he tries until he steps down.

He can keep his majority leader spot. He can't be Speaker though.

Republicans couldn't secure a more favorable outcome in last years election with an idiot like Biden in office not to mention inflation, an unsecured border and a great deal of other things.

First day with republicans holding control of the house is a circus and it will not play out in republicans favor in '24.
The communists don't have any problem getting the votes lined up. Democrats are good at it too. Why can't the republicans... oh, wait...

That says way more about the voters than Republican party in general. We are on a sinking ship due to a myriad of reasons. You know that saying the best leaders are those that don't seek the power? McCarthy has been salivating for this for years. Give me someone that hasn't jockeyed for the job for the better part of a decade now.

McCarthy has already threatened members committee assignments that vote against him? Is that seriously a leader you want? Someone so petty as to strip members of committee assignments?

I'd say, not being able to find a candidate to get the support of anywhere close to a majority of the caucus, then blocking the candidate who does get such support, is the very definition of selfishness. They are throwing a tantrum. Hell, even MTG is adult enough to know that this is a loser stunt.

The other 203 don't want someone else though. The 19 need to get on board, not the other 203. Minority rule can't become the GOP standard.
Those 19 stop anything that McCarthy tries. The fact that McCarthy is doing this **** again after not having the 218 last time is bull***** He can't let this go for his ego. He needs to step aside for the good of the party.
Maybe the 19 need to put aside their ego and let this go.
You honeslty think that McCarthy is good for this party as Speaker?
For this House, yes. None of their policy positions will get through, but I think McCarthy will be able to get some GOP policy concessions on must pass bills.

This clown show doesn't impact the next election one iota. About 10% of voting public is even watching or paying any attention

Republicans couldn't secure a more favorable outcome in last years election with an idiot like Biden in office not to mention inflation, an unsecured border and a great deal of other things.

First day with republicans holding control of the house is a circus and it will not play out in republicans favor in '24.

That says way more about the voters than Republican party in general. We are on a sinking ship due to a myriad of reasons. I wish Republicans were more effective but their (our) message is infinetely more difficult to sell. It's like comparing 2 salespeople, one is selling ice cream (dems) and one selling a can of Cancer (rep).

They tried to. McCarthy ignored them. He was so convinced that the GOP was going to win in a landslide and wouldn't need to rely on dissenters and could get the new members votes. This is a crisis of his own doing.
