Reagan didn't want to be president either. Yet he ran and won and was the best president in our lifetimes. Stop with that idiotic talking point.

We're you around in the '70s or the even the late 60's?

Reagan was front and center on politics, he had his own radio show or radio spot like Paul Harvey where he talked national politics after his CA governorship. He made Ford piss in his pants at the convention before Carter beat Ford.

Reagan was not shy about wanting to President.

LMAO

the guy who was GOVERNOR OF CALIFORNIA, spent decades talking about national policy on the radio and TV, who RAN AGAINST AN INCUMBENT REPUBLICAN in 1976...

but "he didn't want to be President"" when running in 1980.

seriously, the amount of knowledge about REALITY is at such a low level in some of these posts.
I believe he briefly flirted with throwing his hat in the ring during the '68 convention.

This shows just how unserious the holdouts are. They are only nominating him because they don't want to vote "present" and lower the threshold (thereby making Jeffries speaker, if enough people do the same).

amazing that Boebert literally underperformed all the Colorado Republicans- she barely squeaked out a victory by 500 votes in a GOP district!!

and the lesson she learned was- go even crazier hard right and throw even more bombs around the political landscape.

brilliant!

at this point it's better to just vote for democrats against Gaetz and Boebert- at least we can avoid the embarrassment of having them in our party if they are going to vote as leftists anyway!
Good God. No wonder we get our asses kicked in every meaningful political battle.

When do they chain the doors and start burning ballots?

(For I'm Gipper, yes I am making reference to the process to select a new Pope. No need to try and make a funny joke for yourself).

Awesome, these 20 holdouts will give the RINOs more time to strike a deal with Jeffries for the speakership.

After a while, yes. But before he was on a mission to support others who thought like him. He had no notion of running for president when he made his Goldwater speech, for example.
so you are claiming that SIXTEEN YEARS before Reagan ran for President in 1980 he didn't want to run for President..

so that means we should @#$#@$ the GOP today because McCarthy wants to be Speaker today.?

what if McCarthy sixteen years ago didn't think about being Speaker?

No, I'm saying that just because Jordan says he doesn't want to be speaker does not mean he could never be convinced or that he would be a bad speaker.

And if you seriously think that having Jim Jordan as speaker over McCarthy would "@#$#@$ the GOP", then you are a fool.

New demand from the freedom caucus should be: anyone giving a quirky speech instead of just saying a name while voting for speaker be imprisoned for life without parole.

These Dems are insufferable

What I find interesting about this exercise are the number of republicans fed up with the status quo in Washington and those who go along to get along and don't fight for ideals because they are afraid of public backlash. Now many are "cmon, this looks bad for the R party….just get on board". My question is which is it?

This is the process and regardless whether you want McCarthy or not, this is an indictment on his ability to lead the entire R party in the House. This type of battle isn't novel. It happens all the time behind closed doors. McCarthy isn't navigating it well and with such a slim majority in the House, that should worry all Republicans

Unserious is not seeing the problem presented by electing an establishment RINO to the speakership and saying this time it will be different. It is past time to be bold!

Byron Donald would be a bold move and it is time!

Sad that there are 200 Rs that are so wedded to the idea of having McCarthy as speaker "because it is his turn" and "he has paid his dues" that they would continue trying to force him through and risk some defections to the D side rather than coalesce around somebody else that the freedom caucus could agree on.

I actually LOVE what's going on. 20 folks who have had enough, showing the World that the status quo and business as usual is no longer acceptable, and using whatever leverage they've got to try and affect change for their constituents, the people, and the Country.

I want politics bloody. I want it rancorous. I want friggin people to risk something every vote they take. This isn't supposed to be a feed trough and good old boy system. It's supposed to be hard, tiring, and so difficult that only the most committed and dedicated statesmen sign up for it.

Fight on, my friends. Fight on!

Not disagreeing, but the tail (10%) is wagging the dog here.

The reality is that a non-RINO would never get enough support either.

Democrats will continue winning because they are the ones that "play the game".

Again, I am supporting Freedom Caucus decisions and I don't care if it takes all year. We complain all the time about rinos and establishment leaders. We finally have a group digging in against this and some of us are complaining. What are the costs? Some pointing and snickering by the enemy of the nation? Delaying the committee probe into laptop gate/wuhan? Nobody will go to jail, nobody ever does. This might be the smallest hill to stand on, but it will have been the only one and it is about freaking time.
