Everyone I've talked to in LA read this and basically went, "Eh. No different than what I'm already doing." That said, there have been bunch of dumbasses still hanging out in groups, and quite a lot of people out and about (even though traffic is basically non existent). I think this is mainly for the numbskulls and a lot of "non-essential" businesses.

Wow! Very impressed with CEO of AMC.

Just appeared on fox business. All theaters closed. Will have to lay-off 96% of work force.. mostly low income workers. Host asked him to make his case for a bailout. He said they don't want a bailout. They want a loan they can pay back with interest. Said when theaters are open, they make tons of cash and will have no problem paying back. But they have to be able to weather the storm or it's game over, and a bailout is not the answer. Then he said he's already cut his salary by 25% and isn't opposed to cutting more if needed.

All I've heard is that most of them have allowed members to freeze their memberships for the time being. I'm not a member either, so I'm not 100% sure how all that works overall, though.

I have Alamo season pass and they sent an email on March 16 proactively pausing my subscription effective immediately. Said they'd send another email when they reopen and will resume the subscription at that time. No need to take any action on my end.

Talked to head of HR at my company. Her husbands best friend buys and renovates theaters for AMC. She told me the same that the entire company is essentially laid off. That coincides with her story.

She also added that the guy was also told the company will go completely under in a matter of a few weeks. No bailouts expected.

That differs a little. Guessing it was just an angry guy losing his job, but it's a very real scenario sadly.

Damn. That's dark. NATO (National Association of Theater Owners) has asked congress for aid, so we'll see what happens there. If it really is that dire, the studios are going to HAVE to help out the theater owners in some way, otherwise they're going to have no where but streaming to release their movies.

Cinemark proactively said they weren't billing us till this is over. I do the 8 dollar movie club thing.

This backs up what a lot of people I know are dealing with. I'm actually super impressed that ILM has managed to shift to remote workers, but as a whole the VFX houses are putting their clients waaaay ahead of their employees.

And while I can't support that, it's also not entirely their fault. As the article mentions if a VFX house tries to change the terms of a deal the studio will just go somewhere else, and subsidies and the shift of most VFX work into more or less a commodity has made the margins razor thin over time.

It's unreal that the people who create some of the most important parts of the biggest films of the year have none of the protections that most of Hollywood does.

There's been attempts to unionize in the past, and there is a small animators union in LA (primarily feature animators at a few big studios). But as a whole VFX artists are this incredibly critical yet totally abused and unprotected group.

I'm overall very impressed with the entire movie and tv/cinema entertainment industry and their willingnesss to help each other out.

Just like athletes donating portions of their salary to workers at their respective satidums, actors and actresses have an incredible opportunity to use their wealth to prop up the businesses that help them reach their target audience. I hope to continue to see more "talent" working towards helping their allies get through this.. whether sports, cinema, or whatever.
