One of my good friends was still on contract at a prominent previz studio up till a week or two ago, and he's hearing that they're starting to call people about new contracts.

They've also been remote for a few months and I'd expect would continue that for a bit.

Nice. Yeah, it definitely feels like the wheels are starting to turn again. Granted, the article states that certain areas of California will get going faster than others (in other words, there's almost no chance LA is shooting again a week from today), but for the most part, hopefully production, post-production, and theater-going is up and running under whatever the new normal is by July.

Was out getting gas tonight and was deilghted to see the Star Cinema Grill by my house open for business.

Features this weekend include:

Shrek
E.T.
Major League
Star Trek (2009)
Batman
The Bourne Identity

and a few from the last year or so.

Planning on going Sunday - if my wife wants to go with me and the kids, we'll see Shrek or E.T. If she decides to stay home, that movie will be mysteriously sold out and we'll go see Batman.

Top Gun could have been the movie the saved America and have been released on time. Sigh...

Would have been amazing. The problem is still New York, though, as they're obviously a massive market, but will almost assuredly be the last to open, and likely not before Top Gun's original date.

Yeah NY is ****ing it all up. Every theater could have had every screen showing top gun at various capacity limits by state and it would have made an absolute killing. Oh well. Just keep Tenet for late July and TG will be the best Christmas present ever.

absolutely no thunder-gunning during top gun.

I'm sure it'll be higher by July, but right now, especially with no new movies, 25% ain't worth it for theaters...

Today marks exactly three months since I've seen a movie in theaters. The last time I went this long without going was... junior high, maybe?

It will almost assuredly be four months, and then hopefully Tenet on the 7/17, shortly after.

What movie?

First Cow, which is really, really good. It had just come out in limited release the weekend prior, but instead of going digital since, it sounds like A24 is going to re-release it theatrically again first, likely later this year...

I forgot about that movie. I saw a preview way back now I'm excited they will release.

This reminds me, wasn't there a movie awhile back about maybe a farm, or a homestead or something like that (sorry I don't have more details)? It didn't really sound like my type of movie at first but people really loved it so I was excited to see it. Then 2020 happened.

I saw that trailer before Endgame last year - the trailer alone felt like it lasted forty-five minutes.

Some good news finally:

Premiere Cinema in Bryan has announced a June 19 re-opening date.

Quote:

While masks are optional for guests, staff members will wear gloves and face masks and be temperature-screened. According to a press release, cashier partitions and hand sanitizer stations have been installed, as well as enhanced cleaning protocols, such as disinfecting seats and contact surfaces between shows.

Show times will be staggered, and signs are installed to remind people of social distancing recommendations, the release states.
No details on what movies will be showing, but hopefully this will include the IMAX screen with maybe some classic movies being shown.

Star Cinema Grill in Cypress continues to impress: This week's movies include all three of the Nolan/Bale Batmans, Moneyball, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and The Hangover.

Wife and I thinking about going to see the Dark Knight Rises this week one afternoon while kids are at camp. When it came out in 2012, our micro-preemies had been home from the hospital about 6 weeks so needless to say we did not go during its initial run.

Big #boxoffice release date changes from WB - #Tenet moves two weeks later from JUL 17 to JUL 31 while #WonderWoman1984 moves seven weeks later from AUG 14 to OCT 2 (same blockbuster wknd that worked before for Joker and Venom).

The 2021 Oscar ceremony moves from February 28, 2021 to April 25, 2021, and with the move comes an extended eligibly period. Instead of qualifying movies needing to be released within the 2020 calendar year, the "2020" Oscar eligibility period will be from January 1, 2020 to February 28, 2021. This, of course, means that "Oscar season" (September through December) could look very different this year...

Brian Earl Spilner

This seems like a fair solution.

It'll be weird for the 2022 Oscars though, with a shorter eligiblity period. (Assuming it returns to Jan 1.)
TCTTS
How long do you want to ignore this user?

True, but Oscar-nominated movies rarely come out in January/February anyway.

So if a movie gets nominated from early 2021 is it also eligible for the Oscar show in 2022 ??
