Saw a rattlesnake on FM 2005 today, near the Hamilton/Mills county line. Not the first time I've seen rattlesnakes sunning on the asphalt in December in this area!

Copperheads will stay on the surface more so than any other snake in my experience. They aren't necessarily active but will sit under a log/board (this one was under a rail tie) all winter instead of heading underground.

This little guy showed up to help with Christmas lights yesterday. Very deceptive coloration. Almost like it's pretending to be something it's not.

I've seen a surprising number of snakes on Texas Snake ID over the last week. A lot of water snakes around the Houston area, but I also saw a timber rattler reportedly found in Bryan. That's a first for me in the few years I've been interested in snakes around here.
