I always thought sidewinder was a generic term for a rattlesnake. Didn't realize it was a specific type. That pic is really cool but not on your porch

Previous JRT didn't really react much but had swelling the size of a tennis ball. This one reacted with shaking, foaming, panting, drooling, diarrhea, beside herself etc...

We figured she has likely saved us from the pain and expense of 4 potential moccasin bites in the last 2 years... so we took her in to vet, left her overnight and gave her the anti-venom.

Anybody know where or how to snake train a dog...west Houston. I have no doubt she will go after the next one.

This is the quickest we ever got outside when hearing the snake bark and it is the only time she got bit. She killed 1 other moccasin and the other she was after but was careful.

JRT are trained killers.

Sidewinder was my guess as well (would've been a pretty lucky guess). I'm still not great with rattlesnake species IDs so I always like when one of these pops up.

Just so you know what to expect, the procedure I saw (and was effective for my GSP)…. they use live rattlesnakes and put an ecollar on the dog. Then walk the dog toward the snakes and as soon as it alerts, it gets a jolt. Then repeat, although most dogs don't need a second jolt. The dogs give the snakes a wide berth.

Awesome. Sounds good to me. She is collar trained and reacts well to snapping of fingers, vibration, beep, loud voice or light shock.
