I live near the foothills in Colorado and see them quite regularly while mountain biking. I've had a few people tell me they have had their bikes struck at too, but never this, lol. Cool pic

Big mature female. But coloration is different on all individuals. Changing more as they get older.

I think that one was riding on the dirt. Will probably only ride on the road (in the middle of the lane) from now on, just to be safe.

ID help with this one please? Dog found it out by the pool. Not very long, maybe 24" -30" but seemed pretty thick around. Pointy head. He's dead. Thanks in advance.

Honest question, not trying to pile on. Did you see bite marks on your dog's face or any signs of pain or distress? Or saw it strike and killed it out of sheer reaction? I've never been in the situation so I can't say how I'd handle it.

To be honest with you, the only thing I noticed was that it didn't have a rattle. All the other stuff you listed I know nothing about. And I won't keep apologizing for it either

Saw it strike and then killed it. Small bite marks and blood on the dogs nose a few minutes later.

My policy is if they're outside I let them slide. If they're in the house they're dead. That's for snakes, spiders and mother-in-law's.

It is what it is... now you know. It was a youngish coachwhip so it does still have some juvenile markings that make it look strange.
