Did it hitch a ride from your house? If so, you will need to burn it to the ground.
I saw his tail go under as I was getting in the driver's door. Waited for him to come out the other side. If I had gotten in a couple seconds later I wouldn't have seen him and had snake guts all chopped up in my wheels.
Wife found this Garter Snake Saturday while doing some landscaping. Guy had a temper but was safely relocated. College Station.
Western ribbon snake. It is a type of garter snake so you are not wrong in any way.

Kind of a throwaway reply to get the thread over the line on the watch list. But relevant to this -- my daughter wants a pet corn snake.
Go for it. Great starter snake. Doesn't get too big, feeds well, good temperament, doesn't need a ton of space, lots of color morphs to choose from, and somewhat native if it gets out.

I saw one for sale at Petsmart last night. $70ish dollars. The thing that really caught my eye was the estimated lifespan of around 20 years. I had no idea.

Appreciate it. He was cold and exhausted - not sure how long he was in the pool. After about 30 minutes he left that flowerbed and disappeared so I count it as successful rescue.
Water snake, diamondback I think. Pretty dull right now, probably due for a shed.
I have a collie that is a critter finding machine. She will find anything from a Scorpion in the house to a mouse or snake in the yard, and them alert bark at it.

That's a N. erythrogaster. Probably PBWS or YBWS by phenotype, but it's all the same.

Yup, makes me wonder how many I almost stepped on in my life. Also since we have seen a few dozen at our property everyone has snake boot/guards to be safe.

Here are two rattlers. We found three more in the den. This is on our family land near Temple that has been around since 1877. Only second time rattlers have ever been seen.
