When hybrid snakes (or other animals for that matter) can produce viable offspring usually on the fringes where two different species ranges overlap, you get an "intergrade" population which has genes from both species and is kind of a mix between the two species.

That's what's going on with this snake. It is an intergrade between speckled kingsnakes and desert kingsnakes and would presumably have genes from both. It's technically not wrong to call it a desert kingsnake or a speckled kingsnake since it is both.

The building is still there, it's a "gourmet" hot dog place now. Snake was in parking lot between there & Lake.

I couldn't even find him until the third picture. I struggle telling them apart, but it's either a garter or ribbon snake. Both harmless.

better than me....i "found" it twice before getting to the third pic and realized i was just looking at leaves in the first two.
