This is as far back as it goes: https://texags.com/forums/13/981/

There were a couple small threads on Clones, but nothing like the mega threads now. This was a very different board before Muck, TC, and spilner. Lots more live music threads.

I do see YouBet posting back then. Not too many other familiar names that are still active.
My 4th post ever, September 23, 2002.

In light of A&M's dazzling 156-yard effort Saturday against Virginia Tech, I present this dramatic recreation of a key scene from the 1983 film Return of the Jedi, starring Texas A&M offensive coordinator Dino Babers as Darth Vader and disenfranchised Aggie fan, season ticket holder and Class of 96 alum Tom Day as Luke Skywalker.

INTERIOR, KOLDUS BUILDING

Stormtroopers Dustin Long and Reggie McNeal bring a handcuffed Tom Day into a long hallway, where Lord Babers awaits.

Long: "This is the two-percenter that surrendered to us. Although he denies it, I believe there may be more of them and I request permission to conduct a further search of the Northgate area."

Babers: "Good work, backup/starter/thirdstring, conduct your search and bring his companions to me."

The troopers depart, leaving Babers and Day alone in the hallway.

Babers: "The Slocumperor is expecting you."

Day: "I know ... loser."

Babers: "So, you have accepted the truth."

Day: "I've accepted the truth that you were once Dino Babers, a competent offensive coordinator."

Babers (turning to face him quickly): "That name no longer has any meaning to me."

Day: "It is the name of your true self. You've only forgotten. I know there is still innovation in you, the Slocumperor hasn't driven it from you fully. That was why you couldn't lose the Gallery Furniture.com Bowl ... that is why you won't bring me to your Slocumperor now."

Darth Babers looks down from Day to the ragged 12th Man towel in his own black-gloved hand. He seems to ponder Day's words. Babers lifts the 12th Man towel above his head and slowly waves it.

Babers: "I see you have held on to your old 12th Man. Your faith is complete (he lowers the towel). Indeed you are a sucker, as the Slocumperor has forseen."

Day: "Come with me."

Babers: "Steve Kragthorpe once thought as you do. You don't know the power of the draw play on third and long. I MUST obey my master."

Day: "I will not watch ... and you'll be forced to take away my season tickets."

Babers: "If that is your destiny."

Day: "Search your feelings, loser. You can't do this! I feel the innovation within you, let go of your hate."

Babers: "It is too late for me, Army. The Slocumperor will show you the true nature of the conservative offense. He is your master now."

Day and Babers stand staring at one another for a long moment.

Day: "Then my alma mater is truly dead."

I must have not realized there was an Entertainment Board in the early days. The first post I see from myself on ET is in 2006, and also about Star Wars.

As far as I'm concerned Episode 2 is the best Star Wars so far. Better than Empire.

The acting isn't as bad as the critics have been saying. It isn't oscar quality, but SW has never been about acting.

The plot was great, the battle scene was amazing, Yoda fighting was awesome.

Even the love story between Anakin and Amidala was done pretty well, in fact it was kind of rushed and could have been shown a little bit more.

Jar Jar has been greatly reduced, he is in maybe 2 separate scenes that make up about 2-3 minutes of screen time.

The chase through Corisant was cool, it is at the very beginning of the movie.

The final 45 minutes was just amazing.

So many posters claiming Sith was the best movie of the series. Wild. It's not even the best of the prequels

Sith is the best prequel
Over time, The Phantom Menace has become my favorite prequel. The music is phenomenal, the world building is really exciting (Naboo, Coruscant), Qui-Gon's rebelling against the council is really cool, the pod race is such vintage Lucas, and the end lightsaber remains the highlight of the PT for me. Yes Jar Jar and Lil Orphan Ani are pretty bad, but now that I have kids they are much more understandable. The opening sequence with Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon on the TF cruiser, seeing 2 Jedi in action together, blocking the laser bolts, the Force sprint, Qui-Gon melting the blast door, that was such great "what I've been waiting for stuff". I remember my ear to ear grin for that.

ROTS I love the first half a lot more than the 2nd half - Palpatine closing the deal on Anakin is some really great acting, I love his little smile when he says "save your wife from certain death." The end duel between the heroes I really wish would have had lots more dialogue. Especially on Obi-Wan's side. I feel bad downplaying much effort Hayden, Ewan, and Nick Gilliard put into the effort, but the dialogue is what makes a great duel outside of Maul's. And really would have liked a ton more of Vader taking the Temple.

Also enjoy PM the most as well. Podrace, Darth Mail fight and music overall.

Does anyone else feel like John Williams did amazing work on the prequels and just completely phoned it in on the new trilogy?

My whole issue with Phantom Menace is that the entire saga hinges on Qui-Gon gambling with Anakin. So many things outside of his force ability were in play during that race. Obi-Wan told Han there was no such thing as luck, and that's 100% bc he didn't watch that pod race.

Comparatively speaking, I believe he did. There were some new cues, but I noticed a lot of existing music that was re-used or tweaked a bit. But, I'll cut him a break - he's what, 80?85? And he has given those of us who appreciate film scores so much over most of our lifetimes.

As much as I love Rey's Theme and Jedi Steps, yes, I agree. Prequel scores are a 10/10 and sequel ones are probably a 7/10 for me.

Each prequel has a distinct feel in its soundtrack, as well as its big new theme. (Duel of the Fates, Across the Stars, Battle of the Heroes.)

Other than maybe Rey's Theme (and even that might be a stretch), I don't see anything in the ST standing the test of time and becoming a mainstay of memorable movie music.

ST was nothing but a remake within a reboot within a sequel, so if everything else was the same with just a few minor tweaks, why not just do the same with the music? Those movies got the music their story deserved.

Have you seen it recently? I thought it was the best when it was released, but over time it has become almost as hard to watch as Clones, it's just so bad. With all the horrible stuff in Phantom Menace-JarJar, the gungan city/journey under the sea, pod racing-it holds up as the best of the prequels. It's still not a good movie, but better than the others.

I watched it about 3 months ago, and I've seen Phantom a LOT recently (since my 5 year old is into it). I think I would agree that the highs are better in Phantom, but I have never liked the pod race or the entire plot on Tatooine.

I think, at the most basic level, Sith has a lot more action in it. For me that puts it above Phantom...but it's not a wide margin.

Rey's Theme is phenomenal

Yall aren't helping your case, that is one of the most boring *themes he has written for any of the movies.

The best part about John Williams is he creates iconic themes for his movies that you can just pick up and hum to yourself because they are that memorable. He is the master of iconic music themes and he really didn't find an identity with any of the new films.

That said, I do understand he was well into his 80s and anything he puts out at this point should be appreciated. He will be one of the biggest losses to movies in my lifetime when he dies.

That's because the new movies didn't have any identity. I personally think Rey's theme is pretty good, though.

After TFA came out I bought the soundtrack and it's overall very very good. It flows really well, at least the way the album tracks are arranged.

Great atmospheric melodies with some nice bombastic highs.
