Look. I'm not a fan boy. And that video is just trying to sweep that terrible CGI under the rug.

I enjoyed the episode. I've enjoyed most of the Mandalorian. But they blew what could have been a top TV moment of all time with poor CGI.

You keep using the word terrible but I don't think you understand it's meaning. It wasn't bad. Go throw up some 90s and early 2000s cgi next to that scene and get back to us. You are being pissy just to be pissy.

Just imagine how 1/6 would've played out if DC hadn't had such strict gun laws.

Two people starred his post as of the time of this signature. Those 3 people are allowed to vote in the US.

Terrible take.

a. Trust me you are way way way in the minority.

b. You diss the CGI effect here but ignore it for RO in which the final scene is worse CGI - both following an epic Jedi saber and force demonstration.

c. you never bothered to post about Rogue One in the period from it's release Dec 2016 through 2017 (I searched). You were busy posting about The Young Pope, Fargo and Academy Awards but didn't have any comment on RO then which leads me to believe this is some hindsight thing and you probably weren't that gungho back in December 2016 about RO either.

Either way your lack of posting on anything SW related until now leads me to dismiss your take completely.

Completely fine. I've never said I was a huge Star Wars fan. The Mandalorian just seemed like an interesting concept with the potential to be good TV.

Also. Dude that's creepy as hell.

Edit: I never saw RO until it showed up on TNT. I may not have even seen it until last year.

I'm not the only one with this opinion. Just saying Super Star Wars fans aren't exactly objective in their takes.

Also, weird creepy guy. That article says that there was CGI is RO, some guy named Moff Tarkin?

I gotta be honest, the CGI probably didn't bother me becuase I had no idea who Moff Tarkin is or what he looks like.

Even the casual fan knows what Luke Skywalker looks like. So when it's off, it unsettling. It's the uncanny valley principle.

Searching your history to see if you are consistent or were otherwise engaged in any SW stuff is legitimate to determining your motives and basis for your stance.

Guess what... the search function is built into this platform.

The CGI I was referring to in the final scene I mentioned was Princes Leia. But yes Moff Tarkin was too.

I can only assume you know who Princess Leia is??!?!?!?!!??!!

PS - having no idea who Moff Tarkin is diminishes your opinion as well. #BYE

searching posting history is a good way to see if they are just here to troll or have an actual opinion. One is waste of time to engage with.

Luke looked ok, but clearly could/should have been much better. I still think they should have just recast the role (especially if they intend to have Luke appear in more content)

Have you never watched the original trilogy?

The cgi was clearly cgi and noticeable and not good but I didn't care too much. Was too happy to see Luke. The whole idea about people seeing different things is fascinating to me. I recall during RO so many people shocked that Tarken was CGI. They thought he was real and I was blown away by that. It was good cgi but clearly not human. People either have terrible eyesight or their brains are wired wrongly.

Anyway, question on Luke....this was obviously prime Jedi Master Luke, but how he did he get that advanced? His training was cut short on dagobah and he never had another instructor. Did he Rey his way to Master or is this explained in some new canon side novels?

People calling out others for thinking the Luke effects weren't up to par is a super weird position to take. Especially when every single person who has voiced their issues with the Luke effects has gone out of their way to compliment the moment/appearance as a whole.

Well, we can probably assume force ghost Obi-Wan and Yoda continued training Luke.

Probably mostly while Luke was in meditation. More spiritual training than physical.

That's my take, anyway.

I thoughts having Luke show up was a no brained. And the his dismantling of the dark troopers was extremely well done. I just thought the CGI was poor and distracted from an otherwise really cool moment. Apparently there is no room for causal star wars fans in the Star Wars universe.

You say Star Wars fans aren't objective, but honestly they are probably the most critical of SW.

Example: I had major issues with TROS and my brother (casual fan) loved it and disagreed with most of my issues.

So do you think the CGI was worthy of that moment?
Brian Earl Spilner

No, I've said that it wasn't good. But it didn't ruin the moment for me.

The lack of John Williams' force theme during Luke's rampage was my bigger issue.

Agreed. This whole how-dare-you-dissent attitude is creepy af. I thought the sequence itself was awesome! I got chills! But also thought Luke's face looked like ass and was incredibly distracted by the effects used to bring him to life. It's ok to have both opinions!

Go check out the hundreds of pages on the sequel trilogy. You will find opinions across the spectrum from hate to love for it. All we do is bi^ch about SW and there are a number of different opinions.

You just have to be ok with getting raked over the coals, occasionally.

It isnt creepy, people are just laughing at the nitpicking for the sake of nitpicking. CGI always looks like ass, this wasn't any different.

I don't think it looked great. But if you look at that original video posted explaining it, he acknowledges it doesn't look great, but says anyone complaining is letting the good be the enemy of the perfect. And then he gave a couple of theories of why it didn't look as good as in the past.

I wonder why they just didn't use deep fake tech themselves if it's literally so easy to bang it out in 2 days?

Probably have a couple interns furiously making an updated version as we speak. Would it surprise anyone if they dropped an improved one in the middle of the night and never said anything?

Honestly, with Lucas's history of this, I don't know why Disney doesn't put someone on updating the PT with modern CGI. Those movies nowadays look like a modern SyFy channel production. Most of the sets look completely fake and sterile.

Maybe in 9 years for the 30 year anniversary

The deep fake looks much better. His face seemed to "clean" in the original of that makes sense.

Yoda did tell him there was nothing more he had to teach him. I'm sure, along with meditation stuff with Obi-Wan there has to be him gathering knowledge in other ways. However, 5 years of training after going toe to toe with Vader easily gets him to a level where droids ain't sh-t
