Back to Chapter 16, my brother and I were speculating about the programming of the Dark Troopers. When they reboarded the ship, their programming was clearly stating that there hostiles on the bridge and that they should kill everyone outside of Gideon and the Child - per what Gideon said.
So what made every single one of them turn to confront Luke? It would seem unlikely that their hardwiring says - everyone go deal with a potential new threat and abandon the function that you're carrying out right now.
We discussed that they potentially have some kind of danger warning in their programming for significant threats, and that the Jedi Master Luke Skywalker would be #1A on that list. Would they know it from reading the model of ship he entered in? Would it be from facial recognition as he walked past cameras that then feeds into their processors?
Moff Gideon seemed pretty clear on who was turning his prize possessions to slag by the look on his face watching the monitors, and perhaps his suicide attempt was due to his knowledge that a Jedi could read his thoughts if he were captured.
Just something to chew on - the dark troopers seemed like they all knew they needed to stop what was coming, even though they were mere minutes away from achieving what looked like their primary objective.
