How long do you want to ignore this user?
Back to Chapter 16, my brother and I were speculating about the programming of the Dark Troopers. When they reboarded the ship, their programming was clearly stating that there hostiles on the bridge and that they should kill everyone outside of Gideon and the Child - per what Gideon said.

So what made every single one of them turn to confront Luke? It would seem unlikely that their hardwiring says - everyone go deal with a potential new threat and abandon the function that you're carrying out right now.

We discussed that they potentially have some kind of danger warning in their programming for significant threats, and that the Jedi Master Luke Skywalker would be #1A on that list. Would they know it from reading the model of ship he entered in? Would it be from facial recognition as he walked past cameras that then feeds into their processors?

Moff Gideon seemed pretty clear on who was turning his prize possessions to slag by the look on his face watching the monitors, and perhaps his suicide attempt was due to his knowledge that a Jedi could read his thoughts if he were captured.

Just something to chew on - the dark troopers seemed like they all knew they needed to stop what was coming, even though they were mere minutes away from achieving what looked like their primary objective.

I assumed that Luke drew their attention intentionally. Not sure if that's force-possible from what we know but that he made them aware he was there and coming.

I didn't see anyone mention it but the "come little one" was a nice nod to when Luke first meets Ben Kenobi in the desert.

Anyone else have these two scenes connected when they saw it?

I mean while the droids are programmed there have always been some AI going on with them since TPM. Their goal is to eliminate threats and protect Gideon, but that seems to be a pretty wide operating field.

Another thing that bugged me a little bit about that part was when Moff Gideon was gloating that the Dark Troopers would get the doors open and that Gideon and the Child would be the only ones left alive. Why didn't they tell him they would shoot him immediately if he didn't call the troopers off? Maybe they're not programmed to care about hostages?

I'm sure they knew he would know they were bluffing. And if they did I'm sure the droids would press on.

Prob a bunch of other ways to head canon this, but for me I'm assuming they could radio each other. Maybe they could access the cameras on the ship too? Maybe all that lightsabering was loud. Maybe they realized anything that could make it past the other droids and to the elevator was a massive threat.

i am just holding out hope that Dave and Jon are going to weave this all together and close it out with something on par with Endgame. A massive convergence of Rebels, Clone Wars, Mando, Book of Fett set just before TFA.or after TROS

Prediction: Rey is daughter of Mando and Cara Dune

The timing is perfect.

I imagine they had more in mind for her in IX, but since IX basically became cramming 2 movies into 1 to clean up the mess of VIII, time became an issue

SIAP - I haven't kept up with the thread well.

First episode of Star Wars Gallery is on Disney+ (Behind the scenes of Mando)

Is it the first episode or a one-time special? I was under the impression it was the latter, and that they weren't doing a full season like last time. I could be wrong, though. Either way, looking forward to it.

Not sure, halfway into it now.

It is listed as season 2, episode 1 on Disney+... not that it answers your question.

Edit: now that you say it, it does feel that way. They're going through each episode from a high level - so it's not like last year.

I think you must be right.

Fair warning - they don't go into the one thing you think they should go into. (Guessing they were trying to do everything they possibly could to make sure the surprise wasn't ruined)

Other than that, it was absolutely fantastic.

27:26 of S02e01 Gallery is probably my favorite easter egg of the series.

Every report I've read has called it a "one-hour special" and not a series. That's all I know. That said, I would have been surprised if they did a full season again, as so much of last season felt like a novelty and a documentation of something happening for the first time. It would feel kind of repetitive to use that same format again, and go over many of the same subjects, as the first season was less about story and more about process. Seeing as it's the same process and many of the same directors, I don't see how they'll have another eight episode worth of material again.

Yeah, great episode overall, but it's kind of crazy how much they go out of their way to ignore that moment. You're probably right that it was to avoid leaks, but still. That was THE moment we wanted to see them talk about more than anything.

Just watched the Gallery episode. That was great. Some thoughts:

It was cool seeing that it was actually Pedro in the suit all season. (Except the Gideon fight it seems.)

Found it hilarious that Favreau wanted Mando to say maclunkey and Filoni laughed at him.

Filoni: "Spinning's a good trick." Love this man. A prequel memer through and through.

Love that we got to see the actual moment of Lucas holding Grogu.

As mentioned above, pretty disappointed that they completely skipped over Luke. I mean that was THE moment of the season. Is it possible they're holding that back to be its own episode? Here's hoping.

It doesn't crack my Top 50 all-time. That's not bad though very few do.

The only current series up there are these and none are in the top 20.

Westworld
The Crown
Stranger Things
Fargo (S1-3 at least, have not seen 4)
Better Call Saul

Agree with TCTTS there are kind of 3 levels

some shows as examples (mostly only listing recent ones for reference but there are older shows in my list)

Epic - The Wire, Sopranos, GOT, BB, Mad Men, Justified
Great - Westworld, The Crown, Downton Abbey, Sherlock, The Americans
Really good - Fargo, BCS, Peaky Blinders, Stranger Things, Narcos

Mandalorian right now is a notch below those or you could say the lower end of that group. Not that it isn't really good but it is also graded on my (likely biased) SW curve and only 2 seasons. Honestly the S2 finale elevated it from just fun and good to nearly that third tier but lets see how S3 goes.... without a moment like S2 finale I don't know if it maintains.

Other shows that have never cracked my top 50
Yellowstone
Man in the High Castle
Ozark
The Last Kingdom
Jack Ryan

and I really liked them all.

This nails it.

There may be objectively "better" shows out there than The Mandalorian and Ted Lasso, but there aren't two shows I've gotten more pure enjoyment out of in a long time.

for me both of those, Mando and Ted Lasso, are in the same ballpark as Cobra Kai and Stranger Things.

Well done shows, sometimes ludicrous but always fun, funny or entertaining and some great moments. Also relatively short runs so far.
