I think in Phantom Menace, the shields made most of the difference (although plot necessity had something to do with it).

Luke, 5 to 6 years after the end of Jedi, is probably a fair bit past even Qui-Gon in skill/power, in my opinion.

Dark Trooper don't have shields

I'm hesitant to post this since you guys are literally on top of everything, but have y'all listened to this Binge Mode Episode?

I tried to scan the thread, so my apologies if I missed it.

Anybody else find it odd that Luke never says he will train Grogu in the ways of the Jedi? Instead he says "He is strong with the Force but talent without training is nothing. I will give my life to protect the Child but he will not be safe until he masters his abilities." I find it strange that he never says anything about Grogu becoming a Jedi.

Get ready for an Old Yeller call back if Grogu can't master his abilities.

Purely meant as a joke, but could you imagine if Disney released a remake with the same ending nowadays? People would lose their *****

It is basically the layman description for what would happen. As has been demonstrated at various points in the ST and the Mandalorian, not everyone knows what a jedi is or what that means necessarily.

I imagine a strong force user being a bit harder to kill than a rabid dog tied to a tree.

It would make a strong parallel to Obi Wan and Anakin.

He was a total, ridiculous badass in TCW if you've seen that. Some could argue they retconned him that way, but could also argue he's another level than a Jedi Master considering his mastery of the dark force.

The way Disney is trying to close all the plotholes/unexplained WTFs from the 6 Lucasfilms movies, I fully expect a 10 hr spin off series showing how those 3 specific jedi were poisoned or something to account for their complete lack of defense skills lol

What 3 jedis were they? Seem to recall Kit Fisto? Maybe he got some bad herb before heading to Palp's office?

Kit Fisto, https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Saesee_Tiin, and https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Agen_Kolar.

I don't remember Agen Kolar at all and certainly not his name. Definite red shirt.

it's not like any of them have any real experience with another force user with a lightsaber. The Jedi were arrogant and their powers worked against normal people, but were challenged when there is real opposition. Kind of like OU in the playoffs in years past.

That's great if that rationalization works for you. On screen it looked weak AF.

I don't think this is true at all. Their entire training was to fight off the dark side. Just bc they had not seen a Sith since before Yoda was born doesn't mean they stopped training to fight them.

What I will say is that Palps was essentially the Grandmaster Sith version of Yoda and those 3 jedi were clearly not on Mace's level. I still think they should be able to survive for longer than 30 seconds. 5 in that one dude's case.

Hmm...the Jedi and Jedi Council's mindset during the Clone Wars being compared to OU's lack of success in the CFP. Not a comparison I thought I would read toda......well....ever actually.

So the greatest dark side user maybe in history can't take out Mace and two spares? That was your problem with those movies?

They really should have sped up Palpatine's movements in the fight like he was operating on a while other level than the average Jedi - think the Force speed that Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon used in the opening moments of TPM. It's not him just walking up and stabbing them, it's him appearing to move faster than their eyes and brains can handle, because he's using the Force so effectively.

In Matthew Stover's novelization of ROTS he does just a sensational job of decribing how the Force feels and is used by a variety of characters - Palps, Dooku, Mace, Obi-wan - to where it really augments watching the movies and thinking about the way the book describes each character's abilities.

I still don't think Palpatine should have fought with a lightsaber at all. If he's the dark master, he should have been throwing those guys out of windows and smashing them into floors and ceilings. I appreciate Mace giving him a fight because of who Sam Jackson is, but it should have been force powers, not laser swords.

Sith using lightsabers was always kinda meh. In ROTJ, the Emperor even refers to it a little dismissively as a "Jedi weapon." Vader used one because he WAS a Jedi.

Agree that Palps should have used the Dark Side in other ways, and not just smashing people around. When he let loose he should have been like poison in the Force. Maybe he bends a couple of the other Masters to his will, for example. Brought their fear and doubt to the surface. Really blindsided them in such ways.

He certainly wasn't dismissive of it in TCW. Probably the most ridiculous saber wielding badass we've seen*. Granted, that was several years before ROTJ so maybe he evolved beyond use of it.

* I realize I'm arguing for the cartoon version of the Emperor.

I recently watched The Clone Wars; the show did enough to clean up the prequel mess that I'll probably actually watch the movies again before too long. But "everyone has lightsabers" and the brown robes as a Jedi uniform will always annoy me.

I watched this last night and somehow managed to stay spoiler-free.

The horse has probably been beaten to death by now, but it really drove home just how meh the sequels were. I was like a little kid again watching the last few minutes of the season finale. It was OT level magic for me. Just smiles all around.

There is no franchise out there for me that can bring back that wonderful childhood feeling like Star Wars. When it hits, it hits.

I remember talking to TC before TFA came out about what sort of entrance Luke should have and I referenced Flynn's entrance in Tron Legacy - everyone else is kicking and punching and tossing their discs around and he comes in and shuts the place down with his disc

Even after the bad agent steals his disc off his back he reveals he can manipulate code and machines with just his damn hands.

That's the sort of higher-level work I would have liked to see from Palpatine when he was unleashed. The guy is working on a strategy covering 100 different worlds, giant armies, subtle manipulations, all through the Force, he should fight in a way that no normal Jedi can comprehend.

I love TCW Sidious. When he just dismantles Maul and Savage with zero effort, it's a Dark Side high point for sure.
