I thought the head seemed like probably not a cottonmouth, but the tail getting skinny and the body being flat made me think cottonmouth. What helped you come to that conclusion since you can't see belly or the lines on mouth?
The narrow head with "bug" eyes that appear to be visible from above. A cottonmouth will have a more "arrowhead" shaped head (yes, I know the whole "head shape isn't a good indicator for most people argument") with ridges above the eyes that block them from view from above.
But yes, a good picture of the face showing the labial bars on the mouth would increase my certainty.
