"I used Chiaroscuro shading..."

I was actually surprised when the term chiaroscuro came up in The Witcher books a couple of times; I immediately thought of StrongSad...

Oh, figured it was somewhere around Van Horn. Used to spend a lot of time out there looking for snakes about 15 years ago.

Went spotlighting at our ranch Saturday night. As we got back to the cabin my 7 year old said "snake!" I was looking for a grass snake or something but spotted a rattle snake curled under our first step leading up to the cabin.

It just sat there curled up, didn't rattle, didn't move. Not sure if sleeping but doubt it as we were loud and had a light on it. Couldn't let it live/hangout at the cabin with kids around. Hit it as best I could without hitting the cabin with the 12 gauge. Was an exciting ending to the night.

What are the odds there are more under that cabin? First one I've seen even when I was under the cabin leveling it back in April.

The probable real truth is that people are more apt to encounter a smaller snake because there are usually more of them at specific times during the year.

Hmm, I've heard the same thing over the years as well but doesn't suprise me that that is a myth. With that being said, how much damage are we talking here if I try to pick the cute little fella up?

Most people survive copperhead bites, but it is an unpleasant experience. Lots of swelling and pain and sometimes a small amount of localized tissue death that leads to permanent scarring. People have died from copperhead bites before but a young copperhead is unlikely to kill a full grown adult human.

That said, it is recommended you present immediately to the nearest hospital based emergency room after any venomous snake bite for close monitoring and potential need for life saving interventions.

Pain, swelling and tissue damage. If you hit the Darwin lottery you could die from it. But apparently only 6 people have died on the last 120 years from copperheads.

"Copperhead snake bites are rarely deadly. Although they are responsible for an estimated 3,000 bites per year, there have only been 6 reported deaths in the past 120 years from this snake. Most, if not all, of those deaths were actually the result of an allergic reaction rather than the toxicity of the venom itself."

I haven't been tagged yet, but I've been told by several friends that have that the worst part is the hospital bill.

A former co-worker of mine got tagged by a baby rattlesnake. He felt sorry for it because it had reptile mites, so he was picking them off (he has venomous snakes of his own). 10 minutes later - fang got loose, and he got tagged. Fortunately, he made it to the hospital quickly. 15 vials of antivenin and $30,000 later…..

Why is it antivenin and not anti venom?
Badace52

First thing I said was wrong. It was originally developed in France and the French word for venom is venin sometimes spelled venen. WHO now accepts either antivenom or antivenin and the words mean the same thing.

I've heard both used and both are correct. I just never knew why there were two.
