I may have posted this one on a previous years snake thread but don't recall. It's one my wife took in upstate PA on the family's property.

I'm guessing Timber Rattler? Aren't they usually lighter?
edit: Google tells me they also can be black like that. Super cool.

It's a timber rattler. The ones I've seen up there all seem to be black phase although they have some pics in their cabin of the yellow phase ones too.
The jet black head and eyes is just a wicked look.
Very small snek, and I zoomed in. My dog was actually sniffing this one before I noticed.Cromagnum said:
Too close wouldn't you say?

Thank you.
That's exactly what I was thinking. Nature is cheating here.HtownAg92 said:
Dang, that brush cover is scary. At least in West or South Texas when a nope rope is under a *****ly pear, it is pretty clear around it so you can take a peek before retrieving your shotgun shell.

Somewhat off topic but wife found this cute critter in our garage. She wanted me to come home and dispatch it and was not happy with my "just shoo it out of the garage with a broom" response.

Have been on this thread for 5 years or so and thought I knew quite a bit about snakes...until I just saw the two distinct dots on top of this guys head. What are those?
