He is thinking Eastern Blacktailed Rattlesnake. Said it was along a cliff edge and was very docile when he encouraged it to move.

Sneaky snake on the hunt for the night shift tonight. Re-homed him away from the house so the dogs wouldn't kill him. To show his gratitude he was very bitey.

Couple of recent captures…
He's just a little guy.
Rescued a rat snake that was "terrorizing" the neighbors kids by their play set and trying to escape into my yard and then "terrorizing" my wife. They were ready to kill to kill him so I re-homed him. He gave me his best rattlesnake impression by buzzing his tail against the fence while striking at me. I was not deterred.

Yeah, his color pattern was more reddish than any other rat I've ever seen. They are usually darker brown, and occasionally more tan.

I'm back with a find from this morning near the duck pond in our neighborhood.
Didn't have my phone on me when I cam across him but had my 3 year old fetch me a good beatin stick.

My second toe is longer than my big toe too, but isn't spread out so far from it.

Poor snake was just out doing snake stuff this morning. Can't even go for a morning slither and look at some ducks without some brut with a stick whacking it to death.

My mother has it too. I was always under the impression this was termed Hallucis Brevis but it may actually be called Morton's Toe. IDK
The 2nd toe spacing/crook is due to wearing my socks too snug throughout childhood. (Thanks Mom & Dad!!) It never really affected my activities with the exception of some occasional blisters back when I was a runner.
My snake posts always end up about my footwear/foot.

We need to enact sensible beatin stick control.
