He is making the rattle sound if you listen but hiding his tail. I think is may be a bullsnake.

Several species of snakes do this, including rat snakes. Pattern doesn't look like a bull snake.

His tail is extended underneath his right side and you can see him shaking it in the video. His head is the giveaway for me that it's a rat snake, in addition to his pattern, and the fact that he's sitting in you chicken coop.

Pretty sure this is a rat snake, but my MIL who sent it keeps saying it's a cottonmouth. She said her yard guys told her it was "spring camouflage".

The only thing I see that it has in common with a water moccasin is that it's a snake. So many tell-tale identifiers that it's not a cottonmouth
I think most people have a flow diagram similar to this:
Was it found near water?

Zoom in and you will see that there is a dead snake caught in the ground wire. Not much left of him now. He crawled up so far, fell and got his head hung
Is there any barbed wire or chain link fencing anywhere near that post? If not, don't discount that it may have been a shrike that put the snake there. They will typically use thorny tree branches, barbed wire, or chain link wire ends to impale their prey for safe keeping, but they might hang them up like that if they don't have other better options.
Ahhhh that may explain it better. Now before it started decomposing this snake was over four feet long. It's so far up there I have no idea what species of snake it is. A bird of prey might have placed it there
Yeah, if it is that long, probably not a shrike. May have been a small hawk, or it may have been a rat snake climbing it to go after birds and got itself wedged.Zacharybherring said:

Probably a copperhead or rattler, but betting rattlesnake.
What's are the experts thoughts about needing life flight for a snake bite? If you're say 30-40 minutes drive time from the correct hospital would the life flight be necessary and worth it? I know that can't be a cheap flight, and I'm under the impression the overwhelming majority of people live through snake bites. Obviously if I hiked out to a trail head and felt like I was already teetering it would make it a no brainer.
Most of the time just driving is fine within an hour or so of a hospital. That is unless the person is having an anaphylactic (severe allergic) reaction. In that case minutes mean life or death.

I was just going to post about anaphylactic reactions. Had a guy I worked with get bit on the hand by a rattlesnake in his backyard in Denver. They ended up life flighting him and doing an emergency tracheotomy in the helicopter because of the severity of his reaction.Badace52 said:
