Williams has looked good for a rookie. He's had a couple bad plays against huge and quick DTs.

On a related note, Dak looks a lot quicker and that will pay huge dividends.

Most longhorn suck in nfl. Don't get your hopes up. I've heard he's too passive for OL. We need maulers.

He was drafted based on his 2016 season. His 2017 at Texas was terrible.

I give Connor a slight pass for being a sip since he crushed Herman on the way out the door. Also, he his run blocking has been very good. He's just not going to hold up to 330lb bull rushers just yet.

Btw, the Cowboys probably need that other sip out there, Earl Thomas.

Nate Newton cites Chaz Green having a confidence problem. No Nate, he has a "he sucks at this" problem. It's like saying Jerry Jones has a "confidence problem" at doing brain surgery.
Nate Newton is really, really bad at his job.

He's better as a commentator than he was at his last job... smuggling.

That's a good solid take. No bias there.

I'd pump the brakes a little on the panic over Williams. He was going up against one of the best DTs in the league with little to no help inside with Looney. He may have his struggles with strong bullrushing DTs but I love his upside with his athleticism and think he'll soon be an asset inside.

Some other notes from the game:

Jaylon Smith is HUGE, dude looks like he's put on at least 10 lbs of muscle to his frame. I am 100% on board with him. BEAST

Chido and Byron in this scheme are going to be a force. Very worried about Brown though and would like to see Lewis start getting some PT in the slot.

I for one, am a fan of Jeff Heath and think he fits perfectly at SS. He made several impressive plays last night against the run...just seems to have a nose for the football. Pairing him up with ET, would make this secondary elite IMO.

I don't think we're going to have any issues getting pressure on QBs. Gregory and Taco looked improved. A rotation of Tank, Taco, Gregory and Crawford should be fun. This front on 3rd downs should be filthy once you add in Irving.

I am very worried about depth on this team. OL and secondary backups all look lost. They must stay healthy, on OL especially, if they want to compete.

All good points and I agree.

Brown is very frustrating. He's had a great camp by all accounts, but come game time he's right back to bad 2017 habits.

I too like Heath. But he needs a compliment. And we have zero depth at safety. Seattle needs to get real with demands and Dallas needs to get the deal done.

The Dline... Man their 2 deep got push all night long. Really liking this group right now. Not to mention the LBers filling in behind them look legit. Could be an elite front 7 this year. Secondary could be elite too if......

Offense looks just OK, but considering our best WR and arguably the best player on the team hasn't played yet, I'm not worried. The time of possession has been very nice and Gallop is a stud.

Xavier Woods in doubt for season opener with hamstring strain. Get ET now Jerry! If this ain't a sign, I don't know what is.

The problem with Thomas is that you'd likely have to give a good pick for a rental player. Dallas has shown restraint from parting with draft picks for big names in recent years.

Not a rental if they get him here. They'll extend him. After seeing the starting defense the first 2 preseason games, I'll gladly give up a pick/ picks to get ET here. A veteran, all-pro FS can make this defense elite. Pair that with a great running game that can dominate TOP and this team can make a run.

Most people think he's going to be a cowboy sooner or later.

I personally think picks are way over valued these days. I get it that you want guys on rookie deals but this team is darn close to being very good.

If it's just a second rounder they need to get the deal done. But I have a feeling Seattle is being a @#$& about it and are asking for a first.

Seems like you hear deals all the time for really good players trading for mid round picks. Randy Moss immediately comes to mind. But whenever the Cowboys are one of the interested teams it's always a premium pick.

Teams are jealous and resentful of the cowboys popularity.

Myles Garrett already wants to be a Dallas Cowboy. Teams know things like this and they're not going to make it easy.

And yea.......I was both shocked and horrified when the patriots got randy moss for a freaking 3rd rounder. Oakland screwed over the NFL. I have no problem admitting I rooted for the Giants in that Super Bowl.

At the time Moss was traded to NE, he was a mess, coming off a 500 yard, 3 TD season. He was about to hit 30 and had become a bit of a joke.

You can look back on it and say the Pats got a steal, but Moss was terrible in Oakland (as was the team) and wasn't well liked in the locker room.

In terms of premium picks, Roy Williams and Joey Galloway come to mind as enormous trade busts that crippled the franchise for multiple seasons.

I would think a guy actively campaigning to be traded to the Cowboys would be more than just a rental. He'll be here more than just one year.

You're right.....

I think he's either home sick or grew up a cowboy fan. He would be our starting safety for the next 5 years or so.

The safety position has been a weakness for awhile now.

Unfortunately, we can't bring Gerald Sensabaugh out of retirement. He's running for mayor of Sullivan County, TN.

We already had zero depth at safety. The Woods injury is just a preview of how we can royally screw our defense this year if one guy goes down. It's time to get a deal done. We have to get a vet. safety at this point anyhow, might as well get the right one.

It's like many of us have been saying... this defense might be very special this year, it would be a shame to let that go to waste. I believe it was Nick Eatman that said in his article... what good did it do to cut Dez, save 8 million on the cap, and not do anything with that money (Earls cap hit would be right at 8 mil this year).

Broaddus had a great quote in his scouting take from the game... Carl Lewis crawls out of bed and can run fast, Gregory crawls out of bed and can rush the passer.

I fear that the woods injury actually drove the price UP.

Certainly doesn't help negotiation leverage. You pick up this phone this AM, and Sea is like "hmm, interesting to receive your call, Jerry. price just went up."

The price going up would be dumb for Seattle if they want to move Thomas. If the Woods injury forces the need for a safety, the Cowboys will be looking at more than just Thomas and a higher price would take Seattle out of the running.

I agree it doesn't help with leverage, but if I were Jerry I'd tell Seattle that they can have a two for ET or they can have a compensatory 3rd when ET signs with the Cowboys in the off season.

What about Iloka from the Bengals? Still pretty young, and is a free agent now with the bengals surprisingly cutting him.

He was brought up a few times listening to sports radio this morning. Sounds like a good option. We need a guy like him regardless of whether or not we get ET, so I say get 'er done!

Seattle is sitting back racking up CBA $$ from Thomas' absence from camp. They may want to move Thomas, but they're in no way desperate.
