I caught just a few minutes of the Today Show (I know, silly me) this morning, and the narrative was clear.
A couple of minutes about the latest strikes in Iran, followed by a full segment on the affect on gas prices, the fact that the SOR is at lows not seen since the '80s, and the "pain" that Americans are in.
What I found interesting is there wasn't a word about what would happen in the ME if we were to just "walk away".
- Iran immediately resuming attempts to obtain a nuclear weapon and use it against Israel and/or the US.
- A paradigm shift in the oil markets due to Iran now claiming control over the Hormuz Strait, as well as...
- A precedent-setting change to the tradition of freedom of navigation on the high seas, whereas any belligerent country can decide to exert control over freedom of movement and commerce - and be allowed to do so.
The wisdom of Trump entering this conflict at this point in time can certainly be debated, but now that we're in it, we must finish it.
It seems to me that the media, and many on this very board, would find it acceptable for the US to lose this conflict, and ultimately lose standing across the world for generations, as long as the blame for it can somehow be pinned on Trump.
Talk about short-sighted thinking...
Who we are is God's gift to us. What we become is our gift to God.
