If airfare is a fair discussion here, I just looked up Dallas-DJT (Palm Beach) and it's under $250 round trip right now, in early December. Outliers/folks who don't plan well of course can always find high airfares but I don't see the 'massive' price increase some have hinted at being common.

If I fly out of McKinney to FLL on the new Avelo airline it's around $130 round trip (economy, haven't flown them but I am intrigued).

How about this:

RT flight to el paso today was 850
Rt flight to San fran Monday is 900
Rt flight to Virginia on Tuesday is 800

Double what it usually costs. Thanks trump

Well, again, flights can be cheap or expensive based on when/how one buys tix.

Did you really try to use FRONTIER and compare it to United or American? On Frontier, you have to pay EXTRA for a carryon. You have to pay extra for a seat that you can choose. It comes out to be about the same, if not MORE than United or American. And they SUCK. LOL

I have flown on Frontier once I think, around 20 years ago (before they became a 'VLCC'). I just didn't filter them out in my 30 second google search. Again, AA/UA don't seem 'unreasonable.' To each their own, I don't want to make this a travel planning discussion/derail, just an example as the poster I replied to noted 'Virginia.' Maybe they are trying to go to Richmond in first class, I don't care. I have a family member who regularly flies from DCA to Ohio (generally COL) for less than 280 on AA roundtrip.

The point stands, airfare isn't grotesquely higher 'due to' the Iran conflict (or anything else).

Just the next trip I am going to book. We've got lot's of folks on the flip side who regularly share the highest advertised price of diesel/gas in a downtown location here weekly/daily (without a discount, as with loves).

Alright, well the next work trip I need to take is about $750 round trip. Last year the same trip was around $350. If I "plan better" I can fly into another airport 2 hours away and save $50.

Yes but for the the $50 incremental for families filing your tank you said - it's no big deal!

That's what I was pointing out and it is a big deal for most families!

The Abqaiq oil facility, operated by Saudi Aramco, is the world's largest crude oil processing and stabilization plant, serving as the "beating heart" of Saudi Arabia's energy infrastructure. Located in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia, the facility is highly critical to global markets because it handles between 5 to 7 million barrels of oil per day, processing roughly 5% to 7% of the entire global oil supply.

Don't worry Nortex will be along shortly to say these hits are just flesh wounds, the missiles only hit unused equipment, and the price of oil won't be impacted at all......Move along nothing to see here.

LOL, ok Carl. Per Grok (I asked if it had been knocked offline in strikes in the past 48 hours);
Quote:

No confirmed evidence shows Saudi Arabia's Abqaiq oil processing facility has been knocked offline by strikes in the past 48 hours.

Iranian outlet Tasnim and Yemeni/Houthi-linked sources reported a "massive fire" or fires at Abqaiq around October 89, 2026, citing satellite or infrared imagery and claiming a Yemeni missile or drone strike.

Similar claims circulated on social media and secondary outlets (including RT and Press TV). Oneindia noted satellite reports of fires or flaring but stated that a major successful strike causing significant damage "has not been independently confirmed by major international news organizations."

Market commentary (Newsquawk) treats the Tasnim report as unverified single-source material from an outlet affiliated with the Iranian security establishment, which has previously overstated or prematurely framed such incidents. It distinguishes a possible fire or peripheral damage from confirmed loss of stabilization capacity, and notes that Saudi or Aramco confirmation is normally required before treating it as a real supply outage.

Reliable reporting in the same window focuses on Houthi strikes on Saudi airports (King Khalid International in Riyadh and Abha), with Saudi authorities confirming deaths, injuries, and flight disruptions.

Those accounts do not establish that Abqaiq processing was taken offline. An earlier reported suspension of operations at Abqaiq after a claimed Houthi drone strike dates to late July 2026, outside the past 48 hours. The East-West pipeline was also temporarily shut after strikes in September, but that is separate from the main Abqaiq plant.

In short, circulating claims of fires exist, but there is no official Saudi/Aramco confirmation or independent major-news verification that the facility itself has been knocked offline.

And, WTI/oil prices are off in the past 24 hours.

I think that's mainly because the Chinese have begun exporting refined products again, and continued steady growth of oil supply in the market globally.

16 mins not bad.....but once again you are missing the big picture.

The Fremen have the refinery ranged in and can hit it whenever they want.

And with the Saudi bombing going on this morning, the missiles are going to fly again.

There are more missiles than replacement parts.

Abqaiq is not a refinery. HTH. Sorry your Iranian/Russian sources are wrong, again.
Quote:

What it does is upstream of refining. Incoming crude still contains light hydrocarbons and hydrogen sulfide. Abqaiq's oil-processing units (spheroids and stabilizer columns) and natural-gas-liquids plant remove those gases and impurities so the oil is stable enough to ship. The stabilized crude then goes by pipeline to actual refineries, including Ras Tanura and Jubail on the east coast, Yanbu on the west coast, and facilities in Bahrain. The separated gases and NGLs go to other Aramco plants for further processing.

While fictional desert people may have it 'ranged in' in some folks minds, whatever, I don't think it is offline. The big picture is that the oil markets would react if the systems there (less fragile than a refinery fwiw) were destroyed, and probably know more than an SI bot or what we do here from our seats in Texas.

Lowest gas price around Dallas is apparently $3.39 today per gasbuddy.com.

From Google's AI entity:
Quote:

Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels have reportedly launched a major missile and drone strike against Saudi Arabia's strategic Abqaiq oil processing facility.

The strike, which took place on October 8, 2026,has sparked severe concerns over global energy stability, drawing comparisons to a devastating similar attack on the exact same site in 2019.

Current Situation and Impact

The Incident: Online media and Houthi-linked outlets reported that Yemeni ballistic missiles and drones successfully struck the Abqaiq complex in eastern Saudi Arabia. Separately, the Houthis claim to have targeted Riyadh's international airport around the same time.

Visual Evidence: Satellite imagery and open-source intelligence have captured large columns of smoke and severe flaring near the complex. Iranian state media quickly published these satellite images, framing the event as a massive blow to the Saudi economy.

Damage Assessment: While a Gulf official acknowledged minor damage from recent escalation cycles, the exact extent of the destruction and its direct impact on daily output are still being evaluated.

Saudi authorities have historically treated these active incident reports with official caution before releasing exact capacity metrics.
Afaik no independent credible news orgs have confirmed it was struck nor confirmed it was not struck.

So as is typical in wars, we're wait mode, I guess.

Before the war, about 20M barrels of crude and product moved out of Hormuz including Iran. Yesterday 28M barrels of crude move per Trump.

Things like this is what drives people crazy about Trump. If he's talking crude only, that's almost double prewar levels with Iran at 0. If he meant crude and products, he's saying we're moving more out more than prewar despite Irans almost 2M going to 0

Who are these reps in Ukraine? Doesn't sound like they are ready to play ball and will continue to strike Russian refiners

Peace never comes through weakness. Today, representatives of the U.S. Congress were in Kyiv a bipartisan delegation and I am grateful to them for visiting Ukraine at such a difficult time. They asked: what is needed to end the war? The answer must be strong. There must be sanctions under the Lindsey Graham bill, there must be support for Ukraine in protecting lives, and there must be pressure on Russia for its war. And today, there was a conversation between the leaders of America and Russia. A conversation that leads to something different.

Recently, there was a European decision to lift sanctions on Russian oligarchs. Since then, Russian strikes and the torment of people have only increased. This past week alone, there was a brutal Russian missile strike on a residential building in Pryluky, aerial bombs were dropped on Kramatorsk on ordinary city buses and there have been constant attacks on Kyiv's energy infrastructure and on the life-sustaining infrastructure in Dnipro, Kharkiv, Odesa, and our other cities. Dozens of people have been killed and hundreds wounded.

The Russians are compensating for their inability to achieve their objectives on the battlefield with this kind of terror. This year, Russia is weaker on the battlefield than at any other point in the war. That is why Putin is relying on terror. That is why he is relying on attempts to strike backroom deals to secure some form of pressure relief for Russia, in order to buy more time and more opportunities for war.

Any easing of sanctions against Russia without a clear and lasting de-escalation agreement with Russia is an obvious weakness. It plays into Russia's hands allowing it to kill more, wage war for longer, have even less respect for America, and inflict even greater losses and damage on the world.

Ukraine is ready to take symmetrical de-escalatory steps, and the American team knows our position. Our strikes on Russian oil refineries and other oil facilities are a response to Russia's years-long campaign of terror against Ukraine's energy sector. Ukraine will not set Russian oil refineries on fire if Russia does not destroy our energy infrastructure. This is the kind of agreement we are proposing to America, and we believe the United States has enough power to achieve such a compromise.

Gifts to Putin will not bring peace or any benefit to the civilized world. Russia will "repay" the diesel with further terror and perfidy. Allowing Russia to sell petroleum products is an investment in a war that must be ended, not prolonged. What is needed is real de-escalation with Russia on a reciprocal basis.

We count on America's fair support for our defense of life, for our defense of people in Ukraine and on the United States having a correspondingly strong conversation with Russia. A strong one, not a weak one.

It's crazy comparing the the futures contracts now to when the war started. When the war started, there was insane backwardation where the price 6 months out was 50% below the front month. The market was thinking there's supply pressure now but will quickly work itself out. Buyers around the world were paying a premium for immediate supply to keep refiners going.

Market is still backwardated but the curve is much flatter. Brent put to June 2027 is $90. The market isn't panic buying anymore but thinks prices remain elevated for longer.

The oil guys especially in Texas should be more motivated to produce with the curve elevated and flatter. Good for Texas
Dan Scott
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
Kinda. We're enabling it. No Russian diesel is coming to USA unless a trader finds a good deal. It's intended to increase global supply. At the same time China is lifting their export ban.

There's still a structural global shortage in refining. And it's not like there will be incremental barrels on the market, just less friction trying to get around the sanctions.
