Airfare is ridiculous. Gas will be about $50 incremental per tank, not too big a deal. But airfare is for a family is up to a 1K

Dollar is gaining against Euro. That's a small win

Dollar vs. Canadian version is also getting stronger, and this:

The oil glut has begun, in truth.

Funny, but I don't like being behind Indiana.

Spirit management made them the Carnival Cruise line of airlines, with 'rude' passengers and cheapo airfares that relied on low fuel costs to break even at all, with a leased fleet of aircraft. They had planned to dispose of their 'newer' A320NEO models that were more fuel efficient (because they couldn't afford the lease payments) way before any Iran/Ukraine related spike in JP8, thus their remaining A320CEO models were less fuel efficient.

That they couldn't make it past May should tell folks all they need to know about their fiscal outlook entering 2026.

The problem with low cost airlines isn't jet fuel, it's that eventually the pilots/crew unions make them...'same costs.'

Airport costs are skyrocketing with all the new terminals coming online in the next 2 years.

Airfare, parking, and concessions pay for the majority of that.

Its too early for checking sources.....

Question still remains though....Where did they get their tech?

It's Russia Today. C'mon people. Literally Russian state backed news entity. That's all the "source checking" you have to do.

I'm slightly surprised we haven't seen a drone attack on Western refineries given how cheap and plentiful they are.

That was apparently the threat to our bombers on the base in the UK.

My guess is that moving the drones around is easy, but moving the explosives you need to arm them with is still hard.

The drug cartels and MS-13 have a lot of people signed on and fighting in Ukraine so that they can learn drone warfare and bring it back. I'm sure it's just a matter of time.

Where did I do something as such? I just pointed out it was wrong this time. Could do the same for Reuters/AP/NYT/WaPo/FT/CNN etc. hundreds of times a day. I always try to verify/check sources/specify if I question the bias/accuracy or not. Everyone gets stuff wrong sometimes in any case.

Saudis are rolling in oil/LNG/distillates right now. The world just needs more refineries online, that's really all it is. WTI seems to be plummeting down toward the 87's after hitting 91 earlier/just an hour ago. Not sure why, really.

Except many families have more than one vehicle AND they have to fill up many times a month! That is much more than once every now and then family flight!

For many families they didn't fly often prior to the high fuel prices!

If airfare is a fair discussion here, I just looked up Dallas-DJT (Palm Beach) and it's under $250 round trip right now, in early December. Outliers/folks who don't plan well of course can always find high airfares but I don't see the 'massive' price increase some have hinted at being common.

If I fly out of McKinney to FLL on the new Avelo airline it's around $130 round trip (economy, haven't flown them but I am intrigued).

Random & irrelevant news articles or tweets that could be misconstrued and sold as good news to try and prop up the embarrassment that Donald Trump and admin are in 2026. Sounds about right.

Just the next trip I am going to book. We've got lot's of folks on the flip side who regularly share the highest advertised price of diesel/gas in a downtown location here weekly/daily (without a discount, as with loves).

Take from it what one will. Apparently airfares are up 2 percent ytd, so of course some will draw dramatic/'world is collapsing' conclusions. Revenue management is a sophisticated operation at airlines nowadays, so it's again very easy to go out and find a high price for a given flight.

IATA fwiw also shows north American traffic off for August, more than expected so I don't think airlines have a lot of pricing power vs. demand.

And some airlines of course (as DL/SWA famously did) lock their JP8 prices in via futures/contracts, they aren't like you or I driving to the Exxon to fill up daily.

That post was in response to upcoming vacation travel.

Annualized average household easily paying over $1K in fuel incremental.

How about this:

RT flight to el paso today was 850
Rt flight to San fran Monday is 900
Rt flight to Virginia on Tuesday is 800

Double what it usually costs. Thanks trump

Flying DFW to Indy in two weeks for $400/each. Flying to Bozeman for Thanksgiving for $900/each in first.

I fly a lot all of it on my own dine. Fares have not been skyrocketing.

AI Overview

Yes, flight prices are going up. [1, 2]

Key Trends & Cost Factors
  • Higher Year-over-Year Fares: U.S. airfares are roughly 20% to 23.4% higher than they were a year ago. [1, 2]
  • Surging Jet Fuel Costs: Tensions and conflicts in the Middle East have driven up global jet fuel expenses, placing heavy financial pressure on airlines. [1, 2]
  • Holiday Travel Spikes: Fares for upcoming holidays have reached multi-year highs. Domestic Thanksgiving flights are up about 31% from last year (averaging around $402), while Christmas flights are up roughly 23% (averaging around $452). [1, 2]
  • Constrained Capacity: Airlines are keeping seat inventory tighter and relying more heavily on real-time dynamic pricing, meaning fewer deep discounts or last-minute deals. [1]
I would say that is evidence of prices going up. It would be foolish for one to think that prices of flights would not increase with higher fuel costs.

Well, IATA per above says it's 2 percent and google says it's pretty cheap right now regardless of what routes I look for in a reasonable date range (of course turkey day travel right now is going up quickly as it is basically 'too late' to get a good deal). Not sure what folks want to believe but that's the math, imho.

Airport security/screenings were only off about 1 percent in Sept vs. last year, so apparently Americans haven't noticed such a shocking increase. People buying tickets for next day/same day flights of course don't really care about the cost, and pay more.

Even luxury quasi-commercial airline JSX has flights to Denver roundtrip next month from 600 bucks right now.
