Big oil is by and large out of the retail fuel business.

They don't set the price of fuel at the pump.

For that matter, they don't set the price of oil at the wellhead or the refinery, either.

There's a big fat open market you can follow that shows the spot price.

Trump is playing to voters that don't know the difference, which is a smart move.

Idiots are useful in both directions.

Quote:

Gasoline speculation refers to Wall Street traders, hedge funds, and institutional investors who bet on crude oil futures contracts to profit from short-term price movements rather than actually using or refining the oil . These trades can inflate prices at the pump by bidding up the paper value of crude

It is all about perception. That is why Trump is always optimistic on the oil trade through the Gulf and the IRGC is still firing weapons at ships.

Buy your own milk cow if you don't like it. Farmers and ranchers need high prices! Same with chickens and eggs.

Pretty soon, gas stations are going to be paying us to take the gas off their hands once all that new "Drill, Baby, Drill" starts flooding our market.

Let's go!!!

I don't know why I'm mentioning this because it has nothing to do with our situation, but the price of gasoline in Venezuela a few years ago was USD $0.06/gallon. Also, people starving and extreme crime.

Must have been paradise! Just think, you could drive from your shanty to the zoo, pick up some animals for dinner, all the while avoiding gunfire from weapons previously confiscated by the government, all for less than 25 cents!!!

Scenario above coming soon to NYC!!!

Interesting.

I may be wrong, but I thought that country's oil/gas was price controlled by the government. If so, that would explain a lot of it. Also a lot of sheety politicians who aren't taking care of their people.

Also, we're the Effing U.S. of A.. I'd imagine, if we wanted to have prices at the pump significantly lower than they are right now it could be done. The O&G folks might not like it for obvious reasons, but if it could be done I'd like to think we could do it.

According to our new definition of inflation, Americans will soon learn to love them as well if we are to keep inflation from electing Democratic socialists from taking over.

Its bizarre logic but thats what some now argue.

Not really. Not as long as we continue to have open markets.

I mean, you could lower it by the amount of the tax at the pump. Completely get rid of the tax and will come down without affecting supply.

But if the government tries to price fix, and the price is lower than required to turn a profit for the people producing the product, they will just stop producing the product.

At that point, there will be no supply and incredible demand which will raise the price.

If the government comes in and tries to set the price again, they will just stop drilling for oil.

I can also assure you that neither the OP nor anyone else reading this thread has any support or sympathy for anyone that willingly lives in Kalifornia…

I live in California. Not willingly. But it is rough. Prices are coming down. On base, regular is 5.19 as of yesterday. At the peak it was 5.99, or 6.09, I think. And off base, in some places it was hitting $7.

Also, despite prices falling, our strategic petroleum reserves are at the lowest level since 1983. I don't think we can take another prolonged hit like that with the government doing everything it can to keep prices from skyrocketing. It's going to take a while to refill those reserves.

"Inflation" as a word, hasn't had a definition change.

It's more evidence of the intellectual horsepower, or lack thereof, in regards to the publicly-schooled in the U.S. .

"Inflation" means "prices going up", regardless of the reason, to them.

True inflation is due to monetary policy. Tariffs and other liberal fiscal idiocy drive prices up, but not the money supply, so not inflationary. Still stupid as **** . Just not inflationary.

Price controls are just as stupid, and liberal, as tariffs.

Most economic growth policies will result in higher prices, those dumb liberal policies too?

Using inflation to describe higher prices is what is dumb. And it leads to one having to consider price controls to address inflation, which only makes cents if you are using the *******ized meaning of the term.

Usually? Yes. Unless that "policy" is to get the govt out of the way.

And, yes, it's dumb to call prices rising "inflation", but look at the Dem party and, hell, the Republican and Libertarian parties. LOTS of stupid mofos....everywhere.

Diesel is at over above $4 per gallon from our suppliers. I was hoping I could wipe out fuel surcharges from my estimates and deliveries but looks like we'll keep those for the rest of the year to offset early price spikes. Oh well, it's coming down slowly.

It's been the same since the initial drop after the deal was announced, so a couple of weeks now.

It will be nice to see prices at the pump start reflecting those of the market.
