7/27 "Oil prices tumble as pause in U.S.-Iran fighting sparks market relief"
" Brent crude, the international benchmark, fell $6.35, or 6.6%, to $90.41 a barrel, while the U.S. benchmark, West Texas Intermediate, slipped 5.7% to $84.23. "
We can engage in this game indefinitely. The reality is that prices will plummet when the missiles cease and will increase again once they are reactivated. The crucial question is whether we will deplete our oil reserves before we exhaust our missile supply. I think we know the answer to that question.

Good point. Up or down the reserves are being used. I saw somewhere the other day that the reserves are the lowest they've been since the 70s.
If true, I'd imagine that's not something that'll bounce right back up the day this war or whatever eventually and somehow ends.
For No Spin you have this incorrect. Grok says 1983.
Usually if you have to start a sentence with "if true", then the previous statement is likely misinformation.
And its been posted before, by me, that Trump required any draw on the SPR be "repaid" by the take with 1.2 of what is taken. This replaces the reserve plus 20% at zero cost to the taxpayer.
As typical, Trump works for the US taxpayer.
Lol you showed him, it isn't the lowest in 47 years, its just the lowest in 43 years.
Also hilarious to say he works for the taxpayers when he continues to spend away the value of the taxpayer's dollar.
Barrel swaps + premium are standard for DoE. It happens for almost every hurricane and is not unique to Trump.

Depends on the "thing" he's handling:
Immigration? Yes. A+
Iran? At first, yes, but not hard enough. B - Now? D+
Fuel prices? Unfortunately, goes with Iran. :-(
Economy in general? C+ . Needs to massively deregulate important things (IB4 list of innocuous/minimal regs removed that do nothing substantial) , gut spending and cut taxes for everyone - including corporations, remove tariffs.

Then why not mention it on f you are going to talk SPR.
The fact you kids would rather hack at me than deal with things honestly is a bizarre thing of TexAgs.
So either Trump is handling things or he aint. Is he?

Wright has indicated on multiple occasions that they are more aggressive in the deals for this release and the "premium".
So while the mechanism is indeed standard, the specific terms here do not appear standard.
Quote:
Exact historical premium percentages vary by deal and market conditions; the current figures are in a normal commercial range for these contracts but are applied at much higher volumes.
Quote:
Can you explain to me how the DoE runs swap auctions and how markets, not Wright, sets the premium rates based on the spot value of a barrel today.
flown-the-coop said:
The scale of the program by Wright is unique particularly in not using permanent sales as Biden did which left the reserves further depleted.
Not sure what your ongoing issue is. Wright, who works for Trump, deployed a tool that is indeed often used by the DoE, but that was not used by the prior administration in their response to the Ukraine conflict.
Pointing that out is somehow… wrong? Again, weird takes bro.
Quote:
Scale: The 2026 program is far larger (targeting ~172 million barrels via multiple exchange solicitations) than typical prior exchanges or Biden's 32-million-barrel competitive exchange.

here we go.
The Marxists were able to keep control in 2022 with 15% inflation (Carter definition) under Biden. Can the Rs do the same this time?
We voted the current guy in to get prices down and his actions have lead to them going up.

I caught just a few minutes of the Today Show (I know, silly me) this morning, and the narrative was clear.
A couple of minutes about the latest strikes in Iran, followed by a full segment on the affect on gas prices, the fact that the SOR is at lows not seen since the '80s, and the "pain" that Americans are in.
What I found interesting is there wasn't a word about what would happen in the ME if we were to just "walk away".The wisdom of Trump entering this conflict at this point in time can certainly be debated, but now that we're in it, we must finish it.
- Iran immediately resuming attempts to obtain a nuclear weapon and use it against Israel and/or the US.
- A paradigm shift in the oil markets due to Iran now claiming control over the Hormuz Strait, as well as...
- A precedent-setting change to the tradition of freedom of navigation on the high seas, whereas any belligerent country can decide to exert control over freedom of movement and commerce - and be allowed to do so.
It seems to me that the media, and many on this very board, would find it acceptable for the US to lose this conflict, and ultimately lose standing across the world for generations, as long as the blame for it can somehow be pinned on Trump.
Talk about short-sighted thinking...

Your twisting yourself. You compared Biden swap to the current swap. Those are your/your AI's words and what I was responding too. They are the exact same programs and not unique.Quote:

For everyone else, this is where we started. The current DoE swap auctions are not unique, premiums are in-line with historic terms (thanks to FTC's AI summary!), barrel replacement + premium will happen sometime next year, SPR is the 2nd lowest it's ever been and SPR will continue to decline for the foreseeable future; or the admin will face higher $/barrel or need resolve the Straight issue. Those are just the facts.
Oh yeah, and national pump price is $4.10 today and Iran has still not capitulated. Everyone have a great day!

BigRobSA will never discuss the extremely impressive rate at which the Trump admins across both terms have gone full tilt on deregulation. He may not rest until the US Code is simply the 10 commandments plus an 11th one that addresses taxation as theft.
