How long do you want to ignore this user?
Have spent 57 years in Texas - mostly East Texas and country suburbs in old Alief with 300 acres and a bayou behind my house that I spent an average of 6 hours a day in for 8 years.
I have never seen a rattlesnake in the wild. Didn't see a coral snake until I was 45 (Huntsville, Tx forest). Saw a few copperheads and moccasins.
I kind of do and don't want to see a rattlesnake (looked hard for them in Big Bend.) If I see one, I want to see it at a distance then I'll get about 8 feet close.

I feel like it's the same deal as arrowheads. When you're actively searching they won't turn up but as soon as you stop looking or let your guard down. BOOM!

If you're still in Houston, head down to Galveston and search the sand dunes. There's also plenty of rattlesnakes in the salt marsh up and down the coast*

My Dad was an Islander and I once asked him if there really were rattlesnakes in the sand dunes. Without hesitation he said, "you better believe there are."
I guess I'll try the sand dunes with snake leggings and a Depends diaper on.
In Corpus my 11 year old nephew and I were going to take a shortcut through the sand dunes on the way to a pharmacy. A lady screamed from an apartment that there were rattlesnakes in there and not to go in. We didn't but later I thought she just didn't want people making a trail through the dunes because of aesthetics. Now I'm sure she was giving an honest warning and I appreciate it.
I've looked at a map of rattlesnakes sightings on TexAgs before and it was very precise.

Biggest rattlesnake I have ever seen was swimming across the intracoastal near Greens Lake. They're absolutely down there

One swimming across the intracoastal in Rockport. Pretty sure I posted here a few years ago.

My dad used to have a photo of one of his in-laws that went out to Surfside with a buddy after Hurricane Carla.

They went into the higher dunes to hunt rattlesnakes that had gone for the highest ground they could get.

The photo was of them on the beach with 25 rattlesnake carcasses lined up in front of them. They were all good size, too.

Dr. Richard Henderson in the Galveston Wave reported in 2018 that " There are likely several thousand diamondback rattlesnakes that inhabit Galveston and Pelican Island."

Certainly was well fed indeed. I didn't realize how many mice and rats live on the islands and in the marsh. Never see them during the day, but I went flounder gigging recently and they were everywhere.

I saw several of them swimming. Someone on this site posted about catching a red fish with two rats in its stomach. I figured it must have been snagging them off docks or pilings or something. Now it makes sense.

I did some work at the sulfur terminal next to the Pelican Island bridge, and that place was crawling with rattlesnakes, particularly in the winter. They had lots of steam pipes and tanks of molten sulfur that the snakes wanted to snuggle with when it was cooler.

Do they still do the hunt in Port A every year? When my aunt and uncle lived there, once a year several hundred people would line up and take a lane across the dunes, then they'd fire up a bunch of grills and have a rattlesnake cookout.

Family had a house at Tikki Island for a while, and we saw quite a few Rattler's there and around Jones Bay.

Pretty typical of Southeast Texas Eastern hogmoses.
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

Hognose, as stated above. They're technically venomous, but I think it's only harmful to amphibians. I've never come across one around BCS.
