That'd be almost four feet long. Obviously not. Big sucker tho.
Hard to say with no real reference, but if the business end of that snake grabber is about 5-6" long (silver to the tip of the red), then it appears to be very close to 8 of those long. That's a big snek. I have no idea how long that reference is, 5-6" doesn't seem out of the question.

What's the point of wearing boots when you go down on one knee to deal with it.

Meh, Coral Snakes are about the least dangerous venomous snake. They rarely bite, and primarily hide. Only been 1 confirmed human death from one that I know of.

I've encountered several in my lifetime and they all wanted to get away from me as quickly as possible.

So, quick question for those smarter than me.
I have seen more snakes in the last few weeks in our neighborhood in Houston than I've seen in my entire life combined.

Is it the drought we have had this summer? The rain we have had almost every day in the last week? Purely coincidental?

Generally, when it rains, their food starts moving, so they start moving. Or, so I've experienced when looking for snakes in West Texas. Always looked at radar and looked for where it was raining to find snakes. I.e. after it rains, frogs are moving, so their predators are moving. Especially after a severe drought.

Those are subspecies of the same species. Western range ones like that are considered blotched.

Droughts can also concentrate snakes into areas with available moisture and/or prey.

Was fishing on the bank right above him and I think he was curious about the vibration from the rod and line when I was casting. Didn't seem the least bit bothered by me standing there.
